Riot Games has announced significant updates to the structure of League of Legends' tier-two EMEA competitions, the ERLs (EMEA Regional Leagues), set to take effect in 2025. Now, the Tier-2 scene in the EMEA region will match major leagues across the world in terms of format, creating a more uniform scene for professional League of Legends.

These adjustments, which will impact both the ERLs and EMEA Masters, come as part of broader changes to the region's Tier-2 ecosystem revealed earlier this week which promise a more flexible environment to aid the growth of emerging talent.

Just like all major leagues across the world are doing for the upcoming year, the ERLs will also be moving to a three split format in 2025.

This means that one additional split will be added to the traditional two-part season we've grown accustomed to in the EMEA Tier-2 scene. Now, the brand new Winter Split will precede the Spring and Summer Splits in 2025.

The new format aims to give ERL players more chances to show off their skills in search of making it to the top of the League of Legends scene. Likewise, this new format will also give players more avenues to qualify for an EMEA Masters tournament.

More EMEA Masters

Moving into 2025, fans will get the chance to watch more EMEA Masters action than ever before. While the complete EMEA Masters schedule and format is yet to be released, Riot has promised a total of three EMEA Masters tournaments to take place in 2025, one for each ERLs split.

Introduction of Fearless Draft

The latest addition to the ERLs format in 2025 will be the inclusion of Fearless Draft. To begin with, Fearless Draft will only be implemented during the Winter Split, as will also be the case across Tier-1 leagues globally.

By removing the possibility of a champion being picked more than once across the same series, Fearless Draft promises to make Winter Split a more engaging experience for the viewers. Meanwhile, players will have to develop a deeper champion pool in order to keep up with the competition.

ERLs & EMEA Masters Schedule 2025

To accommodate the longer three-split format without causing player and viewer burnout, Riot Games will extend the EMEA Tier-2 calendar in 2025. Below is the expected schedule for the ERLs and EMEA Masters in the upcoming year:

  • ERL Winter Split: January 13th – March 9th
  • EMEA Masters Winter: March 17th – March 23rd
  • ERL Spring Split: March 24th – May 30th
  • EMEA Masters Spring: June 3rd – June 21st

All Summer Split dates are yet to come, as Riot Games is still finalizing the details.
