In the wake of T1’s one-man war on the LPL during the Knockout Stage of Worlds 2023, Korea and the LCK still find themselves in the midst of celebrating. Meanwhile, during this surreal period of celebration and victory, the LCK finds even more reason to celebrate as the LCK Awards now descend on Gwangmyeong for the 2023 iteration of the event.

What is the 2023 LCK Awards?

The LCK Awards is an annually held ceremony. It is centered around celebrating and acknowledging the players in the League of Legends Champions Korea (LCK) who demonstrated excellent performance and contributed meaningfully to the league throughout the 2023 season.

The LCK Awards also historically marks the end of the 2023 LCK season. As we progress through the official off-season for the LCK, most of the teams have already locked in their rosters for the 2024 season. Therefore, this event not only serves to celebrate the best of 2023 in the LCK, but also to cap off the year with recognition.

This LCK Awards is the third edition of the event and will be live-streamed as well as attended in-person by a select audience.

2023 LCK Awards Schedule and Venue

This years LCK Awards was scheduled to take place on December 13th, at 7pm KST | 2am PST | 10am GMT. The event was held at the IVEX Studio, in Gwangmyeong, Gyeonggi-do.

Caster Seong Seung Hoon, Yoon Su-bin, Bae-Hyeji, and analyst Ham “Yejin” Ye-jin will all serve as presenters on the live broadcast of the LCK Awards.

Notable Awards and Meanings

‘Regular Season MVP’, ‘Rookie of the Year’, and ‘Best Coach’ was all announced back in August, at the end of the LCK 2023 Summer Split season.

Players under the Gen.G, T1, and KT Rolster banners were the primary receipients of the majority of the voted awards. Gen.G secured the 2023 LCK Spring and Summer Championships. This has resulted in all 5 members earning nominations. KT Rolster performed exceptionally well in 2023. In the Summer regular season, their roster secured a 16-game win streak, earning nominations for their entire roster as well. Finally, T1 secured their Worlds Championship and won the organization’s 4th Worlds title. This earned all the players on the roster nominations as well.

‘Meme of the Year’ was meant to be awarded to the creator of the most popular meme among fans during the 2023 season. The ‘LCK Global Marketing’ serves to recognize the person for their contributions to LCK’s overseas promotions. ‘Best Showmanship’ for the team/player who displayed the best showmanship.

Lastly, the ‘10th Anniversary Special Award’ is reserved for individuals with the most significant contributions to the LCK’s evolution. The LCK was first formed in 2012, with the first season taking place that year. This year, 2023, marks the 12th seasonal iteration of one of the most competitive leagues for League of Legends.

Celebrating the Success of the LCK in 2023

2023 was the year South Korea won a total of 4 medals in the Hangzhou Asian Games; including a gold medal from their national LoL team. This was the first year esports was introduced and recognized as a medal category and sport in the Asian Games.

2023 was also the year South Korea hosted the League of Legends Worlds Championship - the largest League of Legends tournament on the competitive calendar and arguably the largest annual esports competition worldwide.

In 2023, against all odds, T1 - the last remaining South Korean roster at Worlds - managed to defeat every single LPL opponent to win the Grand Finals and lift their 4th Worlds title.

At the end of 2023 and the LCK Awards, Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok will have lifted his fifth award of the year (sixth if you count winning a Worlds title). Having already picked up ‘Best Esports Athlete’ at The Game Awards and ‘Esports PC Player of the Year’ at the Esports Awards this year, he now adds ‘Mid of the Year’‘Player of the Year’, and ‘All-Star LCK 1st Team’ to the 2023 portion of his résumé.
