Jankos reportedly agrees to join Team Heretics
According to BLIX.gg reporter Alejandro "anonimotum" Gomis's anonymous sources, Polish jungler Marcin "Jankos" Jankowski has come to a verbal agreement to play for the newest League of Legends European Championship (LEC) organization, Team Heretics.
The 27-year-old recently said on stream that his contract's high buyout was preventing him from joining another LEC team, and that only two teams appeared to still be in the running for his contract. While he briefly considered joining an LCS organization, anonimotum's report alleges Team Heretics is willing to pay around €100,000, adding in a reply that there is likely some margin of error due to "many more variables."
Independent reporter Brieuc "LEC Wooloo" Seeger also reported that his sources had the same information on Jankos signing with Team Heretics, but didn't elaborate on the buyout agreement, either.
Jankos, who played for Team Roccat and H2K Esports before joining G2 Esports in 2018, won five championships and two LEC MVP awards in his five years with G2, even advancing to the 2019 Worlds Final against the LPL's FunPlus Phoenix, who beat G2 in a 3-0 stomp.
Team Heretics will replace Misfits Gaming starting in Spring 2023 due to acquiring the American organization's spot in the LEC on July 27. Their alleged recent signing agreements include former Evil Geniuses head coach Peter Dun, former DetonatioN FocusMe toplaner Shunsuke "Evi" Murase, former Unicorns of Love Sexy Edition midlaner Lee "Ruby" Sol-min, and former Cream Real Betis botlaner Jakob "Jackspektra" Gullvag Kapple. Former Misfits Gaming support Mertai "Mersa" Sari retains his spot on the team.
