FunPlus Phoenix (FPX) has officially announced the addition of Xu "Sheer" Wen-Jie as their starting top laner for the 2025 LPL season. After making his professional debut in 2024 for a team as big as JD Gaming, Sheer's rookie season left lots of room for further exploration.

For a player as young as Sheer, the move over to FPX signals an opportunity to continue to develop, this time a few steps removed from the spotlight in the coming year.

FPX Sheer - A star in the making?

Sheer started his professional journey with JDG in 2024, having the tall task of filling the shoes left behind by one of the greatest top laners to come out of China in Jiahao "369" Bai.

Not to overhelm the young rookie with pressure, however, JDG also brought in former World Champion Xuanjun "Flandre" Li to split the load with Sheer in the top lane, as well as help guide the teenager across the many challenges that come with playing in the LPL.

Despite fielding a strong roster for the 2024 season, JDG's year didn't amount to much after the team failed to lift even a single trophy. Although the team may have struggled, Sheer was still able to show sporadic flashes of brilliance during first year in the LPL.

With Sheer clearly still having lots more to give, JDG's decision to move away from the player as they head into the new year was one that many fans baffled. Now, Sheer looks to continue to develop as a player while FPX will hope to tap into the young top laner's full potential before the jig is up.
