The third day of the Group Stage at IEM Katowice 2025 brings us a high-stakes elimination match between two Counter-Strike titans. In the Lower Bracket of Group A FaZe Clan will take on G2 Esports, battling for a chance to keep their tournament lives alive

With the match set to kick off at 6:30 PM CET | 12:30 PM EST, here’s everything you need to know about this intense showdown.

G2 Esports: Struggling for Form

G2 Esports entered IEM Katowice 2025 straight from the Group Stage, but their campaign has been anything but smooth. Their opening match against Virtus.pro was a disappointing start, as only Ilya "m0NESY" Osipov showed up with impact plays.

Nikita "HeavyGod" Martynenko eventually found some footing toward the end of the series, but the rest of the squad struggled, leading to an early drop to the lower bracket.

In their second match, G2 faced off against former teammate Nikola "NiKo" Kovač and his new team, Falcons. Once again, it was HeavyGod who stepped up when it mattered most, leading G2 to victory and eliminating NiKo from the tournament.

However, the rest of the squad still seems far from their expected level, making their upcoming battle against FaZe even more daunting.

FaZe Clan: A Mixed Bag of Results

FaZe Clan started their Katowice run on a stronger note than G2. Their opening match against BIG was a dominant display, with new signing Jonathan "EliGE" Jablonowski starting to integrate well with the squad. The team looked sharp, firing on all cylinders, and secured a convincing victory.

However, things took a turn in their next match against Team Vitality. With lights out performances from Vitality, FaZe were sent tumbling to the Lower Bracket Semifinals, where G2 were already waiting.

Despite the setback, EliGE continues to settle into his role, while David "frozen" Čerňanský and even Finn "karrigan" Andersen have been putting up solid numbers. This could give FaZe the edge in their elimination match.

Match Prediction: FaZe the Favorites?

While neither G2 nor FaZe are playing at their peak, FaZe seem to have a slight advantage going into this matchup.

  • m0NESY is performing well, but not at his usual superstar level. If he doesn't step up, G2 will need another huge carry performance from any of their other players.
  • FaZe have more consistency across their roster. With EliGE settling in, frozen putting up decent numbers, and karrigan even stepping up in fragging, FaZe look more structured and dangerous.

If G2 can break out of their slump, they could push this series to the limit, but FaZe appear to be the favorites to secure victory and move forward in the lower bracket.

Map Veto

Based on past tendencies, here’s a possible map veto scenario:

  • Both teams likely ban Train.
  • FaZe’s pick: Ancient or Anubis.
  • G2’s pick: Dust2.
  • FaZe’s second ban: Inferno.
  • G2’s second ban: Ancient or Nuke.
  • Decider: Mirage.

With this likely pool, FaZe’s structured play could shine on Anubis, while G2 might look to take control on Dust2. If the series goes to a decider, Mirage will be the true test of which team can handle the pressure.

With elimination on the line, both teams will need to step up. Will G2 rise to the occasion and prove they can compete at their expected level, or will FaZe’s solid teamplay and depth be too much to handle? We’ll find out when the two giants clash at IEM Katowice 2025 later today!

Another Early Exit, Same Old Story: Team Falcons Are Running Out Of Excuses

There is a cruel irony at the heart of Team Falcons' CS2 project. Hand someone from 2022 their current roster sheet — NiKo, m0NESY, TeSeS, Kyxsan, kyosuke, all under the tutelage of five-time Major-winning coach Zonic — and they would confidently declare this team the undisputed best in the world. And yet, here we are in March 2026, watching Falcons get knocked out of BLAST Open Spring in the quarterfinals by PARIVISION.
