VCT Masters Madrid 2024 completed Day 2 of the Swiss Stage yesterday. The first game of the day was EDward Gaming vs Paper Rex.

The two teams have faced off against each other three times, with Paper Rex coming out on top each time. But this time, EDG managed to get the upper hand.

EDward Gaming 2-1 Paper Rex

Sunset was Paper Rex’s pick. And they performed spectacularly. With Monyet back on the controller with Omen, PRX dominated the first half, closing out at 9-3. EDG tried to fight back in the second half. Managing to win 5 rounds in a row, but PRX closed out the map at 13-8.

[ZmjjKK] “On the first map, I don’t think it’s because we started so slow, but it’s because I didn’t really play well, and didn’t do my job decently. Because I think there was something wrong with my sensitivity. I don’t know between 3200 or 3500, something goes wrong with it. And, I did a lot of adaptation, and things just went well.

The second map was Bind, where PRX had a solid start. But EDG quickly managed to turn things around. The Chinese side played a spectacular defense to end the half 8-4. The second half was a bit more even between the teams, but EDG managed to close it out 13-9 on the back of some high-impact rounds by Haodong.

Split was quite neck and neck between the two teams, but a standout performance by ZmjjKK helped EDG secure the map at 13-9, thus closing out the series.

Onto Round 2: Gen.G

On being asked what kind of problems PRX were facing in the matchup, f0rsaken had a few things to say. He mentioned that it was communication problems, along with a few other issues, that were the cause of their loss in the matchup.

“Well, I would say, maybe, some communication problems. And the second map, we started kind of slow, and threw a bunch of rounds. We were not reading the opponents well. Maybe that’s one too.”

Coach alecks agreed with this sentiment, and also felt that PRX were behind the entire game.

“I think the whole game today, we were one step behind. Every single move we made; they were ahead of us. And our communications need to be really, really a lot better this time. I think it just fell apart.”

On asking EDG how they were feeling after winning against PRX, and how the confidence of the team was going into the future matchup, Haodong responded with the following:

“If we start well, nothing is really hard for us. Especially with winning against PRX feels like climbing a really big mountain and fighting against our nightmare. I think the upcoming matches are going to go really well for us."

EDward Gaming will be facing off against Gen.G in the next round of the Swiss Stage of VCT Masters Madrid. Meanwhile, PRX will fight for elimination against Team Heretics.
