New Additions to Overwatch 2

The much anticipated advent of Overwatch 2’s Season 2 is now finally here. New morphing tank hero Ramattra bursts onto the scene (read here for early coverage of the new hero). New escort map Shambali Monastery also enters the map pool. Three new events will make their way into the game as well: Winter Wonderland, Battle for Olympus, and Lunar New Year. Each event includes its own features, seasonal skins, and souvenirs.

Blizzard has released the new patch notes on the 6th of Dec, read more here. There are many changes on the horizon and Overwatch 2 Season 2 is shaping up to be an interesting period for the game.

General Updates

An update addresses a bug regarding Control points. Now, Overtime is automatically triggered should Team A gain 99% capture percentage, briefly lose the point and regain the point from Team B. Hero challenges added to unlock Kiriko, Junker Queen, and Sojourn.

Competitive Updates

New, temporary titles earned from previous season end rank. Title can only be equipped during the current season. Furthermore, some QOL updates to smoothen out gameplay. Ramattra will also be locked from Competitive play for 2 weeks.

Hero Updates

Doomfist and Junker Queen Balanced

Damage Hero passives no longer grant bonus movement speed and reload speeds for Damage Heroes have now been increased from 25% to 35%. Doomfist has received some minor buffs on his Power Block and Meteor Strike. Additionally, both skills now benefit his Rocket Punch more now, with the idea to allow Doomfist to be more flexible in a wider range of scenarios.

Junker Queen has received an overall minor nerf to Rampage and Commanding Shout. To balance her out, they have given her self-sustain Adrenaline Rush a slight buff. Bastion’s power level has been low in his Overwatch 2 iteration thus far, so Blizzard has increased the value of his ultimate charge in hopes of given him better fulfilling the role fantasy of sentry lockdown.

Damage Heroes Shuffle?

Sojourn’s power level varied across the ranks, with lower ranks struggling to gain value from her, while higher ranks assumed she was overpowered. Her Railgun at full charge allowed instant kills on 200hp heroes, making it a frustrating experience for opposition against an experienced player. The latest patch reduces her railgun damage while increasing her primary damage power, aligning her more with fellow DPS character Soldier 76.

Symmetra has been struggling in the Overwatch 2 thus far, with her power level far from ideal. Latest buffs have increased her damage overall. The similar tale lies for Tracer as well, with her damage in previous patches underwhelming for the quick witted British DPS. Ana has seen her value rise as one of the few heroes in Overwatch 2 still with a Crowd-control (CC) ability. Her Sleep Dart has been buffed with reduced cooldown in new patch.

Kiriko saw some QOL changes as well as tweaks to her ultimate to reduce some of the unintended negative side effects of it. Mercy has had her self-defense capabilities increased to improve her chances of survival.
