New Season, New Hero

In a South Korea PR event, Blizzard has revealed some details of Overwatch 2’s newest hero, Omnic tank Ramattra. The ability list for the newest addition to the roster of heroes has since appeared online and translated from Korean. The report is reportedly based on information shared at the event held in Korea on Nov 13th.

According to OW2 insider Naeri, the newest tank hero will make use of projectiles and a changing form to frontline. Ramattra will reportedly make use of two forms: an Omnic form and a Nemesis form. The hero was first introduced at the Overwatch League (OWL) Grand Finals 2022, by developers Alec Dawson and Dion Rogers.

Hero Abilities

In the former form, the left click fires a projectile while the right click can create a barrier shield at target location. By selecting the ability Chastisment, Ramattra shifts into Nemesis mode for 8 seconds (subject to changes at the moment), where the attacks now change.

Left click will now be shockwaves generated through raised fists, which penetrate targets in front. Right click massively increases frontal damage reduction at the cost of reduced movement speed. Additional health is also granted.

Ramattra’s E ability, called Vortex of Gluttony, fires a damaging field that pulls, slows, and damages enemies in its range. And the ultimate, known simply as Destruction, automatically shifts Ramattra into Nemesis form, as well as creates a damaging field around the hero. Reportedly, the ultimate remains active as long as enemies remain within the field and are continuously receiving damage.

According to the Overwatch 2 developers during the first reveal, Ramattra will be the first hero in Overwatch 2 capable of transformation at will. The concept itself is not new, having been seen on the hero Bastion in the first title.

New Kid on the Block

Ramattra’s introduction marks the first new hero to join the roster since the launch of Overwatch 2, with the Support Hero Kiriko, Tank Hero Junker Queen, and Damage Hero Sojourn introduced with it. According to the current leaks on Ramattra’s abilities, they have devastating potential to be an overwhelming force on the battlefield, capable of dealing copious amounts of damage on the frontline.

A Harsh Backstory

Overwatch 2 reintroduced fans of the title to the Overwatch crew and their quest to protect humanity. In the launch trailer for the sequel, a new enemy reportedly threatens humanity now, the dreaded Null Sector.

An expansion of that narrative, Ramattra now appears, as the leader of the Null Sector. According to Blizzard’s detailed backstory, Ramattra was originally a war machine that had shed his weapons for peace, sharing ideals with another Overwatch hero, Zenyatta. As time progressed, Ramattra, exposed to the harsher realities of humanity, began approaching his convictions from a colder perspective. As the leader of Null Sector, an ‘Omnic liberation’ army intent on freeing Omnics from oppression through the use of violence means.
