Esports tournament organizer BLAST is reportedly targeting Austin, Texas as the host city for the first Counter-Strike 2 Major of 2025, according to HLTV. The event will take place from June 9-22, 2025, marking the first time the US has hosted a Counter-Strike Major since 2018.

BLAST has a proven track record in organizing successful Counter-Strike events, having hosted the final CS:GO Major in Paris in 2023. That event was highly acclaimed, reaching the fourth-highest viewership peak in the game's history.

A Strategic Move for BLAST

Choosing Austin is a strategic move for BLAST, aiming to tap into the passionate and growing American fanbase for Counter-Strike. Austin’s vibrant tech and gaming communities, along with its experience in hosting large-scale events like the South by Southwest (SXSW) festival, make it an ideal location for such a prestigious tournament.

The last Major held in the U.S. was the ELEAGUE Boston Major in 2018. Cloud9’s historic victory against FaZe Clan captivated fans. Since then, North America has not hosted a Major, making this announcement a long-awaited development. Hosting the Major in Austin is expected to invigorate the local esports ecosystem, driving increased interest and participation in the game.

BLAST expects to confirm the details at the BLAST Spring Final in London, scheduled for June 12-16, 2024. Fans are eagerly awaiting this announcement. It will also include details on the format and locations of other 2025 events. Industry analysts and professional players alike are excited about the prospects of a Major in the U.S. anticipating a significant boost to the region's Counter-Strike scene.

And yet, here we are in March 2026, watching Falcons get knocked out of BLAST Open Spring in the quarterfinals by PARIVISION.
