Patch 7.39 dropped with a huge wave of changes, and the Dota 2 community has been reading through it as if there were no tomorrow. Among the most exciting aspects are the new facets — a feature that continues to evolve and add depth to hero customization.

With that in mind, let's take a look at our top five new facets introduced in Dota 2 with patch 7.39, excluding those already spotlighted by Valve. Of course, this is a subjective list, so feel free to defend your personal favorites in the comments section!

Malignant Mist (Abaddon)

Since the fall of Khanda, Abaddon had slowly faded from the meta. However, things just got interesting again with his new facet, Malignant Mist, which replaces the effect previously granted by Aghanim’s Shard. This facet allows Mist Coil to deal up to 100% of your attack damage and applies effects from items and abilities to enemies it hits.

This opens up new possibilities for Abaddon as a ranged caster with strong burst potential using items like Daedalus. Whether brought back as a carry or used for relentless long-range harassment as a support, this facet breathes new life into the hero.

Resonating Ridge (Earthshaker)

Earthshaker was already a formidable force pre-patch, but Resonating Ridge adds a new layer of threat to his toolkit. This facet causes the echo damage from Fissure to be delivered directly under enemies’ feet, regardless of its origin point.

This change makes long-range stuns even deadlier, allowing Earthshaker to control fights from a safe distance. Paired with a level 20 talent that boosts the damage by 20 for each echo instance, this could lead to terrifying burst potential.

Evil Eye (Lich)

Third on our list is Lich’s brand-new Evil Eye facet. It adds a potent debuff to Sinister Gaze, extending its utility by inflicting additional damage and 50% increased slow for the duration of the channel.

This facet synergizes brilliantly with Frost Shield and Chain Frost, making Lich an even bigger threat in team fights. Already one of the top supports in the previous patch, this upgrade could push him firmly back into the meta.

Sandblast (Sand King)

Sand King lost both of his previous facets in this patch, but the new Sandblast more than makes up for it. This facet causes Sandstorm to blind enemies by up to 50% when they take damage from his attacks. At level 4, the duration of Sandstorm exceeds its cooldown, meaning this blind effect can be active nearly permanently.

This turns Sand King into a counterpick to physical-damage-heavy lineups. With a large 650-unit Sandstorm radius, and potential synergy with area-boosting items and Radiance, this makes him a disruptive presence on the battlefield.

Malpractice (Witch Doctor)

Last but not least is Malpractice — a deadly new facet for Witch Doctor. Maledict is often referred to as Witch Doctor’s “second ultimate,” and this facet takes that reputation even further. When a Maledicted enemy dies, an 800-unit radius area around them deals 75% of the damage from the next tick.

Combine this with a well-placed Paralyzing Cask, and you’ve got a recipe for multi-kills and highlight-reel Rampages. Witch Doctor has always been annoying to deal with, and this facet adds even more frustration for his enemies.

With that, we wrap up our list of the most exciting facets introduced in Patch 7.39. Each of these offers new ways to play and think about classic heroes, and the creativity behind their design shows just how much room Dota still has to evolve.
