Why DreamLeague Season 19 Teams are Constantly Banning Broodmother
DreamLeague Season 19 is well underway and the very top teams in the world are competing for a coveted place at the Riyadh Masters 2023. This is also the perfect opportunity to try out new strategies in a very old patch before the coming Berlin Major. That is assuming that Valve doesn't keep their word and drop patch 7.33 (or even 8.00!) 6 days before the Major is due to start.
A theme has emerged over the course of these games that fans may have noticed. Broodmother has been banned in an astonishing 94.56% of the games, which have been dominated by WEU teams. It’s probably worth remembering though that Brood has only one 1 of the 5 games that she’s made it through the bans in. Which rather begs the question why is every banning Broodmother in DreamLeague Season 19?

7.32e Nerfed Broodmother
Patch 7.32e certainly wasn’t what fans were hoping for when it dropped in March. It also adds to the confusion of why Broodmother has been banned so much. Rather than receiving buffs, she was actually nerfed in 3 different ways:
- Max move speed bonus from Spin Web decreased from 18/28/38/48% to 10/22/34/46%
- Charge restore time increased from 20s to 30s for Spinner’s Snare
- Spiderlings Lifetime decreased from 40/45/50s to 40s
- Spiderites Lifetime decreased from 60s to 40s.
Despite all these changes though, the top teams in the world still don’t want to let her through. Even with nerfs, she’s a powerful hero in the meta because of her ability to spawn spiderlings so block camps, push and spread out vision across the map.
So Why Ban Broodmother in DreamLeague Season 19?
It seems that the reason could come down to Broodmother being able to accomplish what popular heroes like Beastmaster and Enchantress can without any of the item timings. From our perspective, it seems that the current meta is accomplished by drafting a zoo hero and using them to aggressively push towers and take stacks.
Before she hits her 6, Brood gains HP regen and lifesteal from her webs. After 6, it’s all about the Broodlings, which can both farm and push effectively without having a huge spell for the most popular hero in every draft, Rubick, to steal.
Don’t think of Brood as an unstoppable force though. You can still bully her in lane and stop her from building the items she needs to compensate for her lack of stuns, punches and support skills that are favored by those heroes that are regularly making it through the draft.
Other Bans at DreamLeague Season 19 - No Way Near
When we say that Broodmother is the most banned hero, we mean it! The next most banned hero in the entire tournament is Batrider. Would you like to hazard a guess as to his ban percentage? It was 49.66% at the time of writing. That’s actually quite a lot, but when compared to Brood’s 94.56%, it hardly makes a dent.
