When to Expect Dota 2 Roster Shuffle Announcements for 2023
As expected, in the wake of The International 11, a whole lot of players will be leaving their current teams or, in some cases, leaving the pro Dota 2 scene entirely. This is the case every year and it’s never easy for fans to see their favorite players leave after falling short of the TI finals.
So far, a whole lot of announcements have been made about players leaving, but there has been very little in the way of new appointments. It can only really be assumed that the deals have yet to be confirmed and pens have not yet been put to contracts. Official announcements are expected before the new season starts but with the next DPC season not starting until 2023, fans may be waiting a while longer to find out who will be playing on their teams.
Teams disbanded - more than 1 roster is gone for good
The International 11 took place over Halloween weekend and only a couple of weeks later, two teams have announced that their entire roster has been let go.
South American team Soniqs had a rough ride at TI. Ex-player Laslao was released from the team on October 18th after it was revealed live on stream that he had used a horribly racist term to describe his effigy. However, it didn’t end there. After finishing in 17th - 18th place, it was announced on November 1st that the whole roster was released.
BetBoom was an eastern European org that seemed to be doing really well, especially after coming through the Last Chance Qualifiers. But it was another disappointing finish for the team and after only a few months, the whole roster has been released. Nothing has yet been announced about where any of the players are moving to, if at all!
Matumbaman - the legend himself retired
No one really wanted to believe that Matumbaman meant that this really was his last year in pro Dota. Things certainly went well for Liquid after they made it through to TI at the very last opportunity and lots of fans were cheering for him to end his career on a huge high. While he didn’t quite make it to the Grand Finals, fans can take solace in the fact that Matumbaman has previously won the Aegis in 2017.
But that’s not all - the other exits
- Ammar “ATF” benched on OG. They confirmed in a tweet that he is free to explore other options.
- Raven left Fnatic after his contract ended.
- Kuku, Xepher and Whitemon all left the T1 roster. While Topson and Ana are technically still on the team, fans aren’t expecting them to stick around much longer.
- Both Sacred and Darkmago have not only left Thunder Awaken but it was announced on November 3rd that they went straight to SA competitors beastcoast.
Not long now
With the new departure announcements seemingly slowing down, all that is left is for the new appointments to come next. Fans will particularly be looking at Liquid, who will need to replace position 1 carry Matumbaman and OG, who should be introducing a new offlaner in place of ATF. All that remains to be seen is who it is!
