The first two matches of the Upper Bracket Quarterfinals of VCT Masters Tokyo took place today, as LOUD took on Evil Geniuses. And Team Liquid took on EDward Gaming.

Game 1: LOUD vs Evil Geniuses

EG managed to silence their doubters, as well as LOUD, as they won the series 2-0 against the South American Giants.

LOUD ban Split

Lotus remains

Starting off on Fracture, EG took full advantage of the unorthodox nature of their map pick. Completely demolishing LOUD on the attack, EG ended the first half 9-3. LOUD tried to save face by clawing back a few more rounds. But EG were relentless. And equalized LOUD in the second half to take the map 13-7.

This loss must have shaken the South Americans, as their performance on Ascent was not an improvement. Starting on the defense, EG managed to take 4 rounds right off the bat. Both teams traded rounds with each other, before ending the half 7-5 in favor of EG. What followed next was an attacking masterclass from the North Americans. EG completely dominated the half, managing to pull off a 6 round streak to win  the map 13-5 in dominant fashion.

LOUD have been relegated to the Lower Bracket Round 1. While Evil Geniuses move on the Upper Bracket Semi Finals.

Game 2: Team Liquid vs EDward Gaming

Team Liquid managed to eke out a victory against Chinese powerhouses EDward Gaming, as they took the series 2-1.

TL pick Split

EDG ban Bind

TL ban Fracture

Lotus remains

Haven started off as a very balanced affair. Neither team managed to find their groove in the first half. Both kept trading rounds with each other, until the half finally ended at 6-6. However, in the second half, Liquid managed to get momentum going on their attack side. The EMEA Champions only allowed EDG to take back 3 more rounds, as they won the map at 13-9.

EDG returned the favor on Split. Although EDG had a decent start on Liquid’s map pick, Liquid managed to salvage the half. The first half ended at 6-6 once again. This time, it was EDG’s turn to show off, as they put on a very impressive defense. The Chinese powerhouse only allowed Liquid to take 2 rounds in the half, as they won the map 13-8.

Lotus was the deciding map. EDG had a decent start, managing to take an early lead in the first half. They ended the half at 7-5. But then Team Liquid fell into a groove of their own. Managing to find the momentum that allowed them to keep going, they won 7 rounds in a row to take the lead, and get themselves on Map Point. EDG did not go down without a fight either. They managed to take 4 rounds in a row to get themselves to 11. But Liquid proved to be the better team in the end, as they took round 24, and secured the map at 13-11.

EDward Gaming have been relegated to the Lower Bracket, where they will face LOUD. Meanwhile, Team Liquid moved on to the Upper Bracket Semi Finals of VCT Masters Tokyo. Where will go up against Evil Geniuses.
