Shopify Rebellion Takes Over: VCT Game Changers Championship Day 5 Recap

The VCT Game Changers Championship day 5 was filled with intense action.  Starting with the battle of North Americas in the Lower bracket Semi-finals between the rivals Shopify Rebellion GC and Cloud9 White. The day concluded with the Lower Finals where we found our second finalist.

VCT Game Changers Championship Day 5 Recap:

Starting with a conclusion of 2022's biggest NA rivalry, the day concluded with Lower Finals giving us the last finalist.

Shopify Rebellion GC  2-1. Cloud9 White:

Cloud9 White vs. Shopify Rebellion is the biggest rivalry in NA Game Changers. There have been ten match-ups between the teams, with Cloud9 White winning nine outings. SR came into the match-up after a year of loss. For SR, C9W was the final boss of NA, and they have been stopped by the boss a lot of times in the past. With a vengeance, SR came into the match-up facing their biggest demon.

The brawl started with Fracture. C9 started strong on attack splitting open the SR defense and winning the first half 8-4. Cloud9 immediately capitalized on the lead and converted it to reach a map point. SR displayed mental fortitude and won seven rounds to force overtime. Despite the comeback, C9W won the first map's OT rounds.

With their backs against the walls in their opponent's map pick, SR started Haven strong with a 6-1 scoreline. Cloud9 scrapped back to win for four rounds in a row to close the half 7-5. Now defending, SR, despite a rocky start, was able to close the game 13-9, forcing the third map.

The final map started with SR starting with a lead, but C9 answering back, leading to a close 6-6 half. In the second half, SR completed split open C9 defense and was able to close the last map 13-9.

Overcome with emotions to beat their rivals in C9 White, Shopify Rebellion GC was more than happy. It led to an emotional show from SR, leading to a violation.

Also, with the win, SR eliminated C9W and qualified to face Team Liquid Brazil.

Team Liquid Brazil 0-2 Shopify Rebellion GC:

SR faced Liquid after defeating their NA Arch-Rivals. Team Liquid Brazil have been impressive throughout the tournament but in the brawl only one of them survives the match-up.

Fracture started with the exchange of rounds between both teams. Toward the end, SR was able to pick apart the Liquid defense to end the half with a slight edge. In the second half, SR won the pistol, but Liquid snatched away the bonus, and it seemed they'd run away with the map. But in the first gun round, SR defended the sites properly, leading to a four-round win streak for SR and a map win. Liquid's pick of Icebox started with SR on defense.

Starting strong, SR could resist Liquid's attack, limiting them to only three rounds in the first half of map two. With tournament lives on the line, Liquid started their defense half but was quickly overrun by SR's solid attack leading to a 5-13 loss on the second map.

With the map win, Shopify Rebellion eliminated Team Liquid Brazil to qualify for the finals of the VCT Game Changers Championship 2022, Berlin.

They will face G2 Gozen in the Grand Finals for a Best-of-five series today, starting at 17:00 CET.
