Enter the Mix: VCT Americas 2023 Week 1 Recap

VALORANT Champions Tour 2023: Americas League kicked off on the 2nd of April. It was one of the 3 regional leagues hosted by Riot.

VCT Americas features some of the best Valorant teams, not only in the American Region, but also in the world. 10 teams are going head-to-head to be crowned the Champion of the Americas. But that’s not the end goal here, as the teams are also competing to fight for points to qualify for VCT Masters Tokyo, and VCT Champions.

Week 1 saw a total of 5 matches, where the 10 teams fought for points and bragging rights, on who won the opening matchups.

Game 1: Sentinels vs 100T

First game of the week, and the league went the way of Sentinels, as they beat 100T 2-1 in the series. Each side won their respective map picks. Sentinels picked and won on Fracture, while 100T did the same on Split. Final map of the series was Ascent. 100T played amicably, and managed to get to Map Point first, but Sentinels pushed the map into overtime. And ended up winning 14-12. Although Tenz had the highest kills at 68, it was zekken at the top of the table with a 1.24 rating overall.

Game 2: KRU vs Furia

Furia showed up with nothing but dominance on their minds as they swept KRU 2-0 in the series. Map 1 was Split, picked by KRU. But it was Furia who decided to show them how the map was played as they won 13-11. On Furia’s pick of Ascent, KRU had little hope. They were completely overwhelmed by Furia. Furia won the map 13-5, on the back of a 6  round win streak on their defense. It was kahlil to top the table with 36 kills and a 1.48 rating.

Game 3: LOUD vs MIBR

MIBR gave former champions LOUD a run for their money. But LOUD did manage to come out on top to win the series 2-1. Both teams managed to win their respective picks of Split (LOUD) and Lotus (MIBR) without much issue. Map 3 was Haven, where both teams had a solid Attack side. But LOUD came out as the better team to win the map 13-11. Aspas dropped 66 kills overall, and sits at the top of the table with a 1.36 rating.

Game 4: Evil Geniuses vs Cloud9

Cloud 9 had easy pickings on their North American brethren, as they managed to take the series 2-0. Cloud9 had no trouble in beating EG in both maps. On Pearl, they had a better Defensive side, and a better Attacking side on Fracture. Leaf sat at the top of the table with 43 kills and a 1.20 rating.

Game 5: Leviatan vs NRG

Final game of the week saw Leviatan take on NRG. The South American were the better side, as they took the series 2-0. Although NRG managed to put up a fight on Leviatan’s pick of Pearl, they were completely pushed over on their own pick of Lotus. They lost both maps 13-11 and 13-4 respectively. kiNgg was leading the table with 35 kills and a massive 1.46 rating.
