VALORANT Patch 12.02: Harbor buffs, Reyna nerfs, and more
VALORANT Patch 12.02 introduces pivotal changes to the Indian Controller, Harbor, and minor adjustments for the fan-favorite Duelist, Reyna. The latest patch is significant for the Controller role. While the meta favors certain standouts, Riot aims to create more balance with meaningful tweaks to the versatile Harbor. These changes are buffs intended to elevate his viability and consistency as a Controller pick.
In contrast, the adjustments to Reyna consist of nerfs anticipated to decrease her pick rate in ranked matches. Patch 12.02 also introduces a few general updates alongside bug fixes. Here’s more on the latest changes.
Harbor Receives More Buffs
Riot Games has identified Harbor as an underperforming Controller who lacks power and options compared to his peers. Patch 12.02 aims to solve this by increasing the baseline strength and strategic flexibility of Harbor’s smoke abilities - Cove and High Tide - and his ultimate, Reckoning.
The ultimate goal is to give players more confidence and viable strategies when locking in Harbor, making him a competitive choice in any meta. Here are all the changes to this Agent's kit:
Cove
-
Cooldown decreased from 40s >> 30s
-
Smoke duration increased from 15s >>> 19.25s
-
Health increased from 500 to 680
-
Harbor now re-equips his gun faster after activating Cove
Storm Surge
-
Storm Surge now plays audio in world if enemies are hit
High Tide
-
Wall height increased from 6m >> 8m
-
Max wall length increased from 50m to 60m
Reckoning
-
Wave speed increased by 25%
-
Can now re-use the ultimate to stop it in place for 7s.
Reyna Nerfed in Patch 12.02
To curb Reyna’s domination in ranked lobbies, Riot Games is directly targeting the Agent’s low-risk, high-reward playstyle. The changes will increase the proactive skill required immediately after she secures a kill. The intent is to force Reyna players to commit further to aggressive duels to get value, rather than allowing them to easily dismiss or heal without consequence. This raises her skill ceiling and should make her dominance more earned.
In short, this change wouldn’t reduce her effectiveness in ranked but make way for more aggressive playstyles, pushing players to actively extend their advantage rather than passively reset after every frag.
Soul Orbs (Passive)
-
Duration in world decreased from 4s >> 3s
The ability description had incorrectly listed the duration at 3s, while they were lasting 4s. The duration now accurately matches the description.
Devour
-
Overheal applied by Devour is now temporary and lasts 10s
-
Healing applied while in Empress is still permanent
Empress
-
Ult points increased from 6 >> 7
