The Usual Suspects Return

Amongst other teams, Toronto will be a 2025 debut for Fnatic and Paper Rex. The Stage 1 EMEA champions missed out on Bangkok after getting eliminated early by FUT Esports. But it wouldn’t be Fnatic if they didn’t bounce back.

Similarly, Paper Rex — who had a rough run at Kickoff and the start of Pacific Stage 1 — found resurgence after a roster change. During their lower bracket playoff run in the Pacific, they took down Masters Bangkok champions T1 and qualified for Toronto after defeating a strong DRX.

But the trend of debutants doesn’t end here. Nine out of the twelve teams will play their first international tournament of 2025 in Toronto. Furthermore, four of these nine will be playing at their first-ever international event.

These numbers are a testament to the extremely high level of competition in VALORANT Esports. They also reflect the constantly evolving meta — and how the esport is a race to adapt to it.

Toronto will also mark a sharp turn away from the Tejo meta, meaning teams will have to adjust once again to compete for the trophy. That said, the frontrunners remain G2 Esports and Fnatic — squads with strong fundamentals and players capable of flexing across multiple agents.

Among the remaining teams, watching how far aspas and MIBR can go will be an exciting storyline to follow. The remaining three debutants — RRQ, XLG, and Wolves — will look to make a name for themselves and gain much-needed international stage experience.

Overall, Toronto promises a mix of top-tier VALORANT and hype moments. With several fan-favorite teams competing, the tournament is set to break peak viewership records.
