World champion and legendary top laner TheShy permanently banned from the Korean League of Legends server, following a new rule in the LCK.

TheShy Permanently Banned on Livestream

Kang "TheShy" Seung-lok was streaming Korean solo queue on 12 January in preparation for the LPL 2023 Spring season. TheShy currently plays for Chinese organization Weibo Gaming (WBG). He is slated to play his first game of the season against Top Esports (TES) on 18 January. Weibo Gaming was formerly owned by Suning.com, with the org. previously known as Suning. Suning had an unexpectedly stellar run to the finals at Worlds 2020.

After a solo queue game, TheShy was puzzled to see the League client had said his account is banned.

Just after a solo queue match no different than any other, TheShy was met with a perma ban. Although TheShy is playing for a Chinese team, some players from China will spend time playing solo queue on the Korean server. Many believe the Korean server to be the most competitive environment solo queue wise.

While there is no official confirmation from League of Legends Korea, the ban is likely from a new rule implemented. Taking a look at The Shy's op.gg page, it's clear the account is banned.

Riot Games Korea implemented a rule barring "accounts rented to foreign pros" to be played on Korean servers. In Korea, one needs a self-identification number in order to make an account. Pro players from China will often borrow family or friends government issued self-ID number to play overseas.

This new rule from Riot Games Korea will make it much more difficult to play Korean solo queue from China. Riot Games Korea will provide rental accounts for overseas players participating during Korean boot camps, but only for the applicable bootcamp period.
