In a spectacle that will be remembered for years, Team Vitality clinched the IEM Cologne 2024 title. Etching their names in the Cathedral of Counter Strike, and in the annals of Counter-Strike history. The LANXESS Arena witnessed an intense battle as Vitality defeated Natus Vincere 3-1 in a in a nail-biting series.

Team Vitality 3-1 Natus Vincere

The match began with Vitality edging out NA'VI on their pick of Nuke 16-14, despite a near comeback by NA'VI. NA'VI responded by taking Dust 2 13-10, leveling the series and setting the stage for a closely contested Mirage. On NA'VI's pick Mirage, Vitality fought tooth and nail, emerging victorious 22-20 after a nerve-wracking 42-rounds of Counter Strike.

With momentum on their side, Vitality stormed into the final map, Inferno, with a commanding 10-2 lead in the first half. Though they nearly let the advantage slip, the Golden Hornets regrouped. And managed to secure the map 13-9, sealing their triumph at 3-1.

The Accolades

This victory marks Team Vitality’s first major trophy of the year, a much-needed win after spending 8 months without any silverware. For the French in-game leader Dan "apEX" Madesclaire, this triumph was particularly special, as it was his first IEM Cologne win after a decade of the trophy eluding him.

Mathieu "ZywOo" Herbaut made the moment even sweeter with his exceptional performance throughout the tournament, earning him the MVP Award. Called a "Deity in Disguise" by Alex "Machine" Richardson, this is ZywOo's second MVP at Cologne, having previously won it in 2019 when Vitality fell at the hands of Team Liquid in a similar 3-1 fashion.

With this victory, Vitality has not only broken their trophy drought but also solidified their legacy in the Counter-Strike scene. The journey to this moment has been one of perseverance and growth, and their triumph in Cologne is a testament to their resilience and skill.

And yet, here we are in March 2026, watching Falcons get knocked out of BLAST Open Spring in the quarterfinals by PARIVISION.
