According to Blix.gg, Korean mid-laner for Gen.G Global Academy, Lim “Quid” Hyeon-seung has reached a verbal agreement with 100 Thieves of the LCS for the new Summer split. Earlier this month, it was reported that LCS mid-lane legend Søren “Bjergsen” Bjerg officially retired for the second time from competitive play.

The 27-year-old had previously expressed how he ‘doesn’t resonate anymore with finding joy in daily practice or sacrificing enjoyment of the long-term goal of winning a championship.’ ‘It just didn’t feel as fulfilling as it did when I was younger, spending all my time playing League, studying League, and just chasing winning above anything else,’ he had said in his Twitter announcement. Following the trend of 100 Thieves in their other titles such as Valorant, they’ve now pursued a young player to take up the mantle of the retired veteran.

Sought-after Talent

Coming into the 2023 LCS Summer split, “Quid” was reportedly one of the hottest prospects and was the recipient of interest from a multitude of LCS organizations in the off-season. Despite his current winrate, “Quid” has been the best performer of his team by a large margin. According to gol.gg, “Quid” current averages 29.8% of the team’s damage (the highest), and also holds the most gold on the team on average at 23.6%.

Moreover, stats also show his success rate at winning his solo lane, coming out ahead in CS at 15 minutes 65.2% of the time. Furthermore, “Quid” also managed to come out positive in CS, Gold, and XP differentials at 15 minutes.  “Quid” has also been a substitute player for the main Gen.G roster on at least two separate occasions, showing his experience with playing on some of the biggest stages.

Roster in Lurch

100 Thieves have currently been left in the lurch; their firepower significantly diminished with the departure of “Bjergsen”. The LCS has historically used imports, especially from the challengers’ leagues of the LCK and LPL, but also from the LEC at times to supplement the shrinking talent pool in North America. Should the deal be complete, “Quid” will be the latest to make the jump across the pool to the LCS.

As it currently stands, the 100 Thieves roster is as follows:

  • Milan “Tenacity” Oleksij
  • Can “Closer” Çelik
  • Yiliang “Doublelift” Peter Peng
  • Alan “Busio” Cwalina
