The RTS (real-time strategy) genre lives on. More than a year after the game became available in Early Access, Stormgate has officially launched its first full campaign: Ashes of Earth.

By the hand of seasoned developers with experience in both StarCraft II and Warcraft III, Stormgate launches an exciting new addition into the genre, promising to deliver passion and hard work into the world of RTS gaming.

What Is Stormgate?

Stormgate comes from Frost Giant Studios, which was founded back in 2020 by none other than Tim Morten (former Production Lead for StarCraft II: Legacy of the Void) and Tim Campbell (former Campaign Lead Designer for Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne). Naturally, this means Stormgate draws inspiration from both StarCraft II and Warcraft III when it comes to gameplay.

After debuting the game back in 2022, Frost Giant Studios launched a closed beta for Stormgate in 2023 before the game entered Early Access in July of last year (2024). Now, a little over a year later, Stormgate has finally launched its first full campaign on August 5th, 2025, giving RTS fans everywhere something to look forward to.

To familiarize yourself with the game, know that the setting takes place in the 22nd century on a "ruined Earth." Currently, the game has three playable factions. These are:

  • The Vanguard: The technologically advanced human race.
  • The Infernal Host: A horde of demonic alien invaders hell-bent on war.
  • The Celestial Armada: A cosmic and mysterious race of angelic warriors.

Stormgate's First Campaign: Ashes of Earth

To officially debut its first-ever campaign, Stormgate has released Ashes of Earth on Steam. To kick things into gear, the game's initial campaign will focus on the Vanguard, letting you experience their story through a total of 12 missions.

How to Play the Campaign

There is more than one way for you to launch straight into Stormgate's Ashes of Earth campaign. You can:

  • Play the first three missions in the campaign for free now by simply downloading Stormgate.
  • Purchase the full Ashes of Earth campaign for $24.99.
  • Purchase the Ultimate Edition bundle for $64.99, which includes all purchasable heroes, the complete Ashes of Earth campaign, and a chicken pet.

Much to Be Excited About!

Despite its thrilling debut campaign, work on Stormgate is far from over. The studio has been vocal about faction overhauls and considerable graphics improvements to remain on the horizon.

Ashes of Earth, however, offers a good first step for players to discover everything that the world of Stormgate has to offer, which also includes an array of free game modes outside of its initial campaign.

Between the enviable amount of experience behind the project's development, as well as Stormgate's star-studded voice cast — which includes names like Simu Liu (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings), Matt Mercer (The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Attack on Titan), and Tara Strong (The Powerpuff Girls, Mortal Kombat X) — it seems apparent that Frost Giant Studios is committed to turning Stormgate into a story of success.

“Stormgate’s launch is a proud moment for all of us at Frost Giant. Our Ashes of Earth campaign is the product of years of hard work, player feedback, and genuine love for RTS.”

— Tim Morten, CEO and Production Director at Frost Giant Studios
