Final Two South American Teams Qualified For The International 2023
The International 2023 qualifiers has finished in most regions. South America is one of the regions that has been on the rise in the competitive Dota 2 scene. They recently broke another regional record, becoming another region to send four teams to The Internationals. As the qualifiers for the region ended, Keyd Stars and Thunder Awaken will join Beastcoast and Evil Geniuses in Seattle on Dota 2’s most significant and prestigious stage in October. The teams secured the two qualifier spots given to the region.
Keyd Stars’ Journey
Keyd Stars had mixed results during the regular DPC 2022-2023 Season. In the Spring Tour, the team even got relegated. After their unsuccessful Spring Tour, the team made some necessary changes to their roster. They bought in a new midlaner and a new offlaner to their team. These changes quickly showed dividends in the team’s Division II run at the Summer Tour. Keyd Stars dominated every team in Division II, only losing to NoPing Esports. The team topped the region and got promoted to Division I for the next season.
However, the team was a heavy underdog going into the South American qualifiers. Nevertheless, they didn’t flinch and carved their way through the qualifiers, taking down Thunder Awaken, one of the favourites. In the grand finals, they dominated Acatsuki, taking a clean 2-0, and secured the first ticket to The Internationals.
Thunder Awaken’s Journey
Thunder Awaken has been becoming stable in the SA region. The team have a different roster representing them this time around. Nevertheless, the organisation proved SA is their region, as The International 2023 will mark the second time the organisation has returned to the prestigious International stage.
Last time, at The International 2022, the team broke new ground for their region. The current iteration of Thunder Awaken had a consistent performance throughout the season, securing a top-three finish. Thunder had a shaky start during their qualifiers run. However, they made up for it by going through the lower brackets, defeating Acatsuki and taking the final ticket available for the region.
With their teams ready, the four SA teams will go to Seattle in October to prove they are the superior “American region” at the most prestigious stage in Dota 2.
