Rocket League Patch 2.64 Brings South Park Crossover, 75 Preset Slots, and Switch 2 Enhancements
Psyonix dropped Rocket League Patch 2.64 on January 22nd, and it's packed with more than just cosmetics. The South Park collaboration grabbed headlines, sure, but the actual meat of this update addresses player frustrations that have been building for a while.
South Park Invades the Arena
Running through February 5th, the limited-time event dishes out five free certified toppers featuring the show's main characters, each tracking different stats. You're getting Cartman (Turtle Goals), Stan (Goals), Kyle (Assists), Kenny (Demos), and Butters (Losses).
There's also a free animated Cheesy Poofs decal for the Octane if you complete event challenges. If you want the premium route, there's the Stampede car body bundled with five character-themed decals, but the free tier is honestly solid on its own. The certified toppers transform these cosmetics from throwaway items into actual stat trackers worth displaying.
Patch 2.64 Changes
- Preset Slots Just Got Bigger: Rocket League expanded preset storage from 50 to 75 slots, something the community has been asking for since the system launched. Serious players were constantly deleting old configs to make room for new ones. This fix is the kind of quality-of-life improvement that compounds over time and removes unnecessary friction from regular play.
- Champions Field Now Honors 2025 RLCS Winners: Psyonix added banners to Champions Field recognizing the 2025 RLCS champions: Atomic, BeastMode, Daniel, and Satthew for 3v3, and Nwpo for 1v1.
- Tutorial Now Optional: Returning players can skip the new player tutorial when accessing the game on different platforms (Xbox still requires it on first launch). Small change, big quality-of-life win for anyone jumping between devices.
Nintendo Switch 2 Gets Optimization Pass
The Switch 2 received comprehensive visual and performance upgrades. Auto-optimization now balances visuals and performance without asking players to choose between them.
Performance targets landed here:
- Docked: 1080p, locked 60 FPS
- Handheld: Dynamic resolution targeting 1080p at 60 FPS
The visual improvements include sharper textures through enhanced anisotropic filtering, crisper lighting with ambient occlusion, higher-resolution shadows, and improved world detail. For Switch 2 players comparing their experience to other platforms, these changes meaningfully narrow the gap.
Bug Fixes Worth Mentioning
Psyonix tackled taillight brightness inconsistencies, Heatwave Decal rendering issues on the Lamborghini Urus, and stretched RLCS decals on the Fennec ZR-F. Audio received attention too: the BMW M4 GT3 Evo got engine sound rebalancing, the Patty Wagon received proper audio correction, and the Hologlass Goal Explosion no longer cuts off mid-effect.
Ready for Patch 2.64?
Rocket League patch 2.64 brings incremental refinement over mechanical overhaul: there are no balance changes or new game modes, just community feedback addressed through cosmetics, platform optimization, and quality-of-life tweaks. The South Park event is the flashy marketing hook, but the preset expansion and Switch 2 performance work are what'll actually smooth many player's gameplay experiences.
