Riot Games is set to kick off 2025 with transformative updates for League of Legends with the merger of Southeast Asia (SEA) servers. These changes signal Riot’s dedication to creating a seamless gaming experience, fostering stronger community ties, and enhancing player engagement across India and SEA.

In a previous article, we have already talked about the new structure for 2025. The year will feature three unique Seasons, each divided into two Acts. Each season will deliver new content, interconnected across the year. Read more about these new changes below.

Unifying Southeast Asia: The SEA Server Merge

Starting January 9, 2025, with Patch 15.1, Riot Games will consolidate the existing servers for Thailand, the Philippines, Singapore/Malaysia, and Indonesia into a single SEA server. This unification promises to revolutionize the gaming experience for millions of players across the region.

Key Benefits for Players

  • Faster Matchmaking: A larger player base will reduce wait times and ensure more balanced matches.
  • Improved Latency: Centralized server infrastructure is expected to minimize lag for most players.
  • Effortless Transition: Players' Riot IDs, account progress, champions, and skins will seamlessly transfer, guaranteeing an uninterrupted experience.

This integration also positions SEA as a more competitive region, offering expanded esports opportunities. Regions like India stand to benefit significantly, with the League of Legends Championship Pacific (LCP) introducing new wild card slots in its Promotion and Relegation (P&R) system.

Expanding Esports in SEA

The SEA server merge is more than a technical upgrade—it’s a leap forward for regional esports. With a unified player base, aspiring teams from emerging markets like India will gain greater visibility, opening doors to participate in global events like MSI and Worlds.

Arun Rajappa, Country Manager for India & South Asia at Riot Games, highlights the broader vision:

“By merging servers, we’re not only delivering a seamless and more competitive gaming experience but also creating a united community that fosters growth across borders.”

What’s Next?

To ensure a smooth transition, Riot Games will provide detailed FAQs and support resources across its social media channels. Players are encouraged to stay updated by following League of Legends South Asia on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Discord.

These updates underscore Riot’s commitment to fostering an inclusive, competitive, and dynamic gaming ecosystem in SEA. With the SEA server merge and the new seasonal model, 2025 promises to be a groundbreaking year for League of Legends players across the region.
