Evil Geniuses, a North American-based esports organization, has announced the acquisition of Ismail "refrezh" Ali from Sprout. The Danish player had left the German team's active roster in February after being replaced by Rasmus "Zyphon" Nordfoss, who returned from inactivity. refrezh is expected to replace Jadan "HexT" Postma on Evil Geniuses' active roster.

The Move:

The move was not surprising, as rumors of refrezh joining Evil Geniuses had been circulating for some time. Evil Geniuses has been struggling to achieve results, placing last at both the BLAST Premier Spring Groups and ESL Pro League Season 17. They most recently attended the BLAST.tv Paris Major Americas RMR as a replacement team after failing to qualify, but they were unable to make the most of their second chance and exited the tournament following a deciding loss to Paquetá.

Refrezh-ing CSGO:

In Sprout, refrezh fulfilled the in-game leader (IGL) role for a period of time, but stepped down from the position after admitting it "has been tough for him", which eventually led to his removal. While his stint in Sprout was not remarkable, refrezh brings a wealth of tier-one experience to the Evil Geniuses team. He was a member of Heroic for over a year and famously won ESL Pro League Season 13.

Evil Geniuses will have ample time to integrate refrezh into the roster, as their next confirmed outing is at IEM Dallas 2023, which starts on May 29. With the new signing, Evil Geniuses are expected to have the following roster:

  • Timothy "autimatic" Ta
  • Vincent "Brehze" Cayonte
  • Jerric "wiz" Jiang
  • Sanzhar "neaLaN" Iskhakov
  • Ismail "refrezh" Ali
  • Daniel "Vorborg" Vorborg will serve as the team's coach.

The Future:

Esports has become an increasingly popular industry in recent years. With many teams and players achieving celebrity status and earning significant amounts of money. Evil Geniuses is one of the most successful and well-known esports organizations in the world. Their teams compete in a variety of games, including Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Dota 2, and League of Legends. The organization has won numerous championships and awards over the years. And its players are some of the most skilled and respected in the industry.

The acquisition of refrezh is a significant move for Evil Geniuses, as the team looks to improve its performance and achieve better results in upcoming tournaments. With refrezh's experience and skills, the team hopes to compete at the highest level and earn a spot as one of the top teams in the industry. Fans of Evil Geniuses and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive will undoubtedly be watching closely to see how the new roster performs in the coming months.

Another Early Exit, Same Old Story: Team Falcons Are Running Out Of Excuses

There is a cruel irony at the heart of Team Falcons' CS2 project. Hand someone from 2022 their current roster sheet — NiKo, m0NESY, TeSeS, Kyxsan, kyosuke, all under the tutelage of five-time Major-winning coach Zonic — and they would confidently declare this team the undisputed best in the world. And yet, here we are in March 2026, watching Falcons get knocked out of BLAST Open Spring in the quarterfinals by PARIVISION.
