Blitz is a unique attacker in Rainbow Six Siege who combines defense and offense using his flash-equipped ballistic shield. Known for his resilience and humor, Blitz stands out in both his personality and tactical value. This guide covers his background, psychological traits, gameplay, counters, and more.

Who Is Blitz?

Elias Kötz, known as Blitz, is a German operator from the GSG 9 unit. Before joining Rainbow, he served with the Schnelle Kräfte in Kosovo. He later helped train India's National Security Guard after the 2008 Mumbai attacks.

Blitz is smart and athletic. He studied at Hermann-Böse-Gymnasium, a school focused on science and languages. His ability to pick up new languages and think on his feet helped him stand out early in his career.

Personality and Mental Strength

Blitz uses humor to deal with stress. Teammates call his jokes “goofy,” but it helps keep morale up. He avoids the spotlight and doesn’t see himself as a hero.

Despite his cheerful attitude, he takes his work seriously. He often puts team safety before his own and never hesitates to lead a push.

Blitz is close to Finka and Montagne. He respects Finka’s strength and shares a friendly rivalry with Montagne. He’s also known for being unusually fit, often used in medical evaluations because of his physical performance.

Role and Playstyle

Blitz is an attacker with medium health. He uses a G52-Tactical Shield that fires flash charges to blind enemies. His main job is to disorient defenders and create space for his team.

He’s most effective in close-range situations, especially when pushing through tight rooms or holding choke points. He can sprint while flashing enemies, allowing him to apply pressure quickly.

G52-Tactical Shield Breakdown

The G52-Tactical Shield is more than just a block of metal. It has built-in flash charges that activate with a button press. The flashes reach up to seven meters. Targets within four meters are fully blinded, while those at longer range experience only partial effects. The flash can be triggered while Blitz is sprinting or aiming. There’s a seven-second cooldown between charges, and he gets four charges per round.

When facing explosives, Blitz absorbs about two-thirds of the damage if it hits the shield. His mobility and shield design allow him to keep moving while keeping enemies disoriented and teammates protected.

Weaknesses

Operators with trap gadgets or disruption tools reduce his effectiveness significantly.

Ela’s Grzmot Mines and Lesion’s Gu Mines stop Blitz from sprinting. Without mobility, he loses the edge his playstyle relies on. If he’s hit by a Gu Mine, he must also lower his shield to remove the needle, leaving him exposed.

Mute’s Signal Disruptors and Tubarao’s Zoto Canisters block Blitz from activating his shield. This neutralizes his primary threat and allows defenders to reposition safely.

Warden is a direct counter. His Glance Smart Glasses let him shrug off Blitz’s flash, even after being hit by one. Smoke bypasses the shield entirely by deploying gas grenades that damage Blitz regardless of position. Oryx can charge Blitz with a Remah Dash, knocking him down and creating an opening to finish him. Melusi and Clash slow Blitz’s movements, making him easier to shoot or escape from.

Impact on Shield Development

Blitz helped test and improve the G52-Tactical Shield. He asked for lighter materials to make movement easier and increase efficiency during engagements. He prefers disorienting targets over using lethal explosives, which reflects his emphasis on reducing unnecessary harm.

He jokes about the shield often, describing its use as “Flash and bash – Kapow!” Even when testing the equipment, he made sure to add a bit of humor to the process. That mix of lightheartedness and practical thinking defines how he works as an operator.

More Facts About Blitz

“Blitz” means “lightning” in German, a fitting name given his role as a fast-moving attacker. His shield has occasionally featured the phrase “Look here, smile, wait for the flash” in German on promotional material. This message matches his tendency to lead with humor before striking.

Blitz originally had an ability that let him spawn early in the Preparation Phase, but it was cut due to balancing concerns. He remains the only medium-armored operator who uses a ballistic shield.

His Elite Skin, Panzerstärke, changes his appearance and even the caliber of his pistol. In this version, his P12 switches from .45 Auto to 9mm. This makes it more accurate to real-life models, given the weapon’s magazine size and recoil.

He’s the only operator with a unique sprinting animation. His birth year was once listed as 1980 in the game but has since been removed. Outside of Rainbow Six, Blitz appears in other titles like Arknights, where another operator, Liskarm, was inspired by him. He’s also available in Dead by Daylight as a cosmetic skin for Felix Richter. His G52-Tactical Shield even appears in XDefiant for the GSK faction.

He likely enjoys electronic music, as shown by the dubstep track used in his operator video. His shield, especially in the Elite skin, features the German coat of arms, adding more cultural flair to his identity.

Closing Thoughts

Blitz adds pressure to defenders in a way few attackers can. He requires careful timing, coordination, and map awareness. He’s best in close quarters and can swing rounds if used correctly. Players who understand his strengths and manage his weaknesses will find him a strong asset in the attacking lineup.
