Overwatch Reveals Anran’s New In-game Look
Blizzard Entertainment has finally shared the much-awaited update to Anran's in-game appearance in Overwatch. Since her arrival in February 2026, Anran has grown into a fan favorite, largely thanks to the blazing effects of her kit. However, from the moment she debuted in the Hero Trial, the community was disappointed with her in-game look, particularly her facial features.
With the arrival of Season 2 on April 14, Overwatch fans will finally receive the hero redesign they had hoped for and been promised. Below is everything you need to know about the Anran changes.
Anran’s New Appearance in Overwatch
Starting Season 2, this is how Anran will look in-game:
Compared to her innocent, baby-faced appearance in Season 1, Anran now sports a more confident and menacing look, owing to the structural tweaks to her eyes, hair, and mouth. She also bears a closer resemblance to her brother Wuyang following these changes.
The Anran Controversy Explained
Anran's in-game appearance at launch was significantly different from what had been shown to fans in her brother Wuyang's hero trailer. Beyond that, her facial design bore a resemblance to heroes like Kiriko and Juno, a pattern for which Overwatch has faced criticism in the past. The baby-faced, conventionally attractive nature of her appearance only added fuel to the fire, as criticism and complaints continued to pour in.
In fact, Fareeha Andersen, Anran's voice actor, also shared her concerns on social media and eventually with Blizzard, stating that she was disappointed that a trailblazer like Overwatch had succumbed to the beauty standards set by the media.
The community's outrage soon caught Blizzard's attention, and Game Director Aaron Keller shared an update regarding the redesign shortly before the Season 1 patch was released. Fast forward to April, and we now have confirmation that the Flanker DPS will arrive with a new look when Season 2 launches on April 14.
