It was destined to happen at some point but nobody expected it to happen now. Ilya “m0NESY” Osipov, the 20-year-old who joined G2 Esports at the start of 2022 and was said to be the next Aleksandr “s1mple” Kostyliev, has finally won a big CS:GO event.

At BLAST Premier: World Final, a $1 million tournament that featured eight of the world’s best teams, G2 Esports had a phenomenal run and claimed the trophy. This result came at the end of a long and relatively disappointing season for the club.

G2’s Run at BLAST Premier: World Final

M0NESY’s team started the tournament in group A and got defeated in the first match against FaZe Clan. The situation was similar to what G2 had done the entire season: start an important match, win the first map, and then get crushed on the next two.

The score against FaZe was 2-1 but G2 weren’t far from winning the second map as well. FaZe needed overtime rounds to grab the win.

After the defeat, G2 had to play an elimination match against Outsiders, the team that won the title at IEM Rio Major. But despite the apparent strength of the opponent, G2 won with ease: 16-12 on Inferno and 16-1 on Mirage. Over the course of the match, m0NESY’s performance was phenomenal: 56-20 K-D and a rating 2.0 of 1.94!

Thanks to this victory, G2 qualified for the playoffs. And this is where they proved to be a highly skilled team. Their opponents were Team Vitality, FaZe Clan, and Team Liquid. But in every single case, G2 proved to be stronger.

The hardest match for them was the semifinal against FaZe. The match ended after just two maps but both times, G2 had to make a spectacular comeback and won with a very small margin: 16-14 on Nuke and 16-13 on Inferno (after a 4-11 first half).

With this victory, G2 won their first S-tier tournament of the season and proved themselves to be one of the best teams on the planet. At the start of the event, their global rank was 12th. Soon, they will be ranked as one of the top five teams in the world.

Another Early Exit, Same Old Story: Team Falcons Are Running Out Of Excuses

There is a cruel irony at the heart of Team Falcons' CS2 project. Hand someone from 2022 their current roster sheet — NiKo, m0NESY, TeSeS, Kyxsan, kyosuke, all under the tutelage of five-time Major-winning coach Zonic — and they would confidently declare this team the undisputed best in the world. And yet, here we are in March 2026, watching Falcons get knocked out of BLAST Open Spring in the quarterfinals by PARIVISION.
