To celebrate the finale of each League of Legends professional season, a World Championship (Worlds) is held, where the best teams in the world assemble. Coinciding with each year's tournament is a chosen Championship skin. Each year features a different champion outfitted in the customary Worlds livery of blue and gold. Moreover, the winning team from each Worlds will earn the right to choose a collection of champions, one per player, as their Worlds skin. Note that the timelines are typically TBA until Riot Games confirms.

Skins at Worlds - What's What

As mentioned above, there are two skin releases that come with each Worlds tournament. One is the Championship skin and the other is the Winner's skin bundle.

Championship Skin vs Winner Skins (Key Differences)

Each year, Riot Games releases a Championship skin. This is a champion decided on and chosen by Riot with the sole purpose of representing the Championship. The skin is Worlds-themed and a new champion is chosen annually. The Championship skin is typically unveiled in the approaching weeks to each Worlds. As of 2025, there are 15 Championship skins:

  • Worlds 2025 Xin Zhao
  • Worlds 2024 Viego
  • Worlds 2023 Renekton
  • Worlds 2022 Azir
  • Worlds 2021 Jarvan IV
  • Worlds 2020 LeBlanc
  • Worlds 2019 Ryze
  • Worlds 2018 Kha'Zix
  • Worlds 2017 Ashe
  • Worlds 2016 Zed
  • Worlds 2015 Kalista
  • Worlds 2014 Shyvana
  • Worlds 2013 Thresh
  • Worlds 2012 Riven
  • Worlds 2011 (Reignited) Riven

The Championskip skins are designed by Riot and in recent years have featured unique VFX and audio effects. The champions are also outfitted in the blue and gold of Worlds, aligning them as that year's ambassador to herald the approaching tournament.

Winners skins by contrast, is a unique reward granted to the winning team of each year's Worlds. Beginning from Season 2 (Worlds 2012), Riot Games have carried on a tradition of allowing the winning team's players to each pick one champion that symbolises their Worlds journey, design it hand-in-hand with Riot and the player's input, resulting in a unique skin that encapsulates the player and team's success.

All World Championship Skins Released to Date

  • Championship Skins are typically unveiled about a month before the start of Worlds. They are usually purchasable in-game for the duration of Worlds.
  • Winners skins, by contrast, are released months after the conclusion of their associated Worlds due to their customized nature. The year's Winners skins are released as an event and will leave the shop once the event ends. However, Winners skins that have entered the Legacy shop will return each Worlds event and will be purchasable again.

Worlds 2025 Winner Skins - Process and Expectations

Winning Worlds is certainly the main criteria for a player earning their customized skin, however, it is far from the only rule to follow in earning one.

  • Participate in at least 2 Play-In Stage and Swiss Stage games that had an impact on the team's advancement (qualification/elimination games only).
  • Participate in at least 1 Knockout Stage game
  • Selected champion must have been played at least once at Worlds.
  • If a team already has a skin for that particular champion from a previous win, Riot serves the right to request the player to pick another champion.
  • Riot will also take into account the current deveopment queue for champion skins to determine the eligible pool players can pick from. This is to avoid releasing multiple skins for the same champion close to one another.

While the Winners skins typically share the team's color palette (team's brand/logo), the primary feature of the skin is that they share a 'theme' across the collection. Each Winner's skin also include extra effects not included in any other skin in the form of the player's signature on recall as well as included easter eggs and references to the player themselves.

Reveal and Release Timeline

Each year's Winners skins typically release about 6 to 8 months after the conclusion of the Worlds tournament. The chosen champions are confirmed shortly after the conclusion of Worlds and development will begin. Riot has confirmed that the design of the skins are preceded by a meeting with the players and even during the design process, players are afforded a large degree of creative input with multiple drafts and mockups to match their vision as best as possible.

Championship Skin 2025- Theme, Availability, Price

The Worlds 2025 skin is titled "Trials of Twilight Xin Zhao". Unlike previous Worlds skins, not only is the skin tied to the World Championship thematically, but the design also embodies the season's overall theme of Ionia.

  • Price: 1350RP
  • The skin will be available until January 6th, 2026, when the Trials of Twilight event concludes.
  • Unlike previous years, Chromas of the skin will also be available for purchase:
    • Obsidian
    • Rose Quartz
    • Ruby
    • Worthy (Blue)
    • Unlocked
  • The Unlocked chroma is only accessible via the purchase of the Worlds Unlocked bundle priced at €100.

Esports Impact and Revenue Sharing

Winning Worlds itself is a lucrative win for the organization and players, however, the sale of their Winners skins becomes an assurance for the future. Historically, Riot has shared portions of the cosmetic revenue from the skin bundle with the teams/players. However, the terms and portion can vary year by year. Moreover, different team contracts may also stipulate differently how this is distributed between the organization and players.

Historic Worlds Skin Patterns (2011-2025)

The Winners skins bundle generally includes the starting five, however, in the case of additional players on the roster, a 6th skin may be included should they be eligible. Check out the outlined process above for more details. DRX 2022 is a recent example of a bundle including 6 Winners skins.
