Let's Talk About Dota 2 Weighted Dice
Dota 2 patch 7.40 gave us Weighted Dice, a new neutral tier one item. The item has generated much debate, with some calling it useless, while others see it as a great early game option.
In this article, we will cover how Weighted Dice works, and if it is worth picking up, and which role benefits most from the item.
How does Dota 2 Weighted Dice works?
Each Dota 2 hero has an attack range. Doom for example, deals 58-68 damage per hit, that's a spread of 10 damage. When Doom attacks, a roll of 0-10 occurs and is added to his minimum damage.
Weighted Dice rolls twice for attacks and picks the highest value. If Doom rolls a 0 and a 7, he'll deal 58+7 = 65 damage in the end. This can result in a solid damage increase.

Most heroes have an attack range of 2-10. Only Outworld Devourer, Silencer, and Chaos Knight have bigger spreads, with 12, 14, and 20 respectively. Weighted Dice is best on CK, who gains slightly more than 3 damage extra per hit.
Gold also has a spread in Dota 2. Melee creeps drop 34-39 old when killed. Most creeps have a fairly small spread of gold. Weighted Dice will increase gold from creeps by 1 for melee, 1.6 for range, and 0.5-1.5 for jungle creeps.
Is Weighted Dice worth picking up?
We threw some numbers at you, but let's get down to brass tacks. How good is Weighted Dice?
If you are looking to jungle, then Chipped Vest helps clear up camps far quicker. It's 20 damage returned per hit received. That's significantly higher than Weighted Dice's average damage gain. And the faster a camp is cleared, the quicker you can move on to the next one.

Damage-wise, Duelist Gloves provide more damage against enemy heroes than Weighted Dice. And they can proc on hit effects such as bash, crit, and such.
Weighted Dice is unpickable for supports, while being an ok option for cores IF they can't pick Chipped Vest, Duelist Gloves, and Dormant Curio. So overall it's fine but nothing amazing so far.
