Last Hope: NA Valorant Challengers League Split 2 Preview
North America’s challengers have one last chance.
In 2023, Valorant saw a revamping of the entire competitive scene thanks to Riot Games. The introduction of partner organizations spread out across the three major regions; EMEA, Pacific, and Americas, is definitively the main focus of the Valorant competitive brand now. However, Riot Games has also worked hard to implement a thriving tier two scene with 23 Challenger Leagues split across the entire globe, including of the most exciting narratively- the North American Valorant Challengers League (VCL).
Everyone’s Favorite Show
An overwhelming stack of talent and viewers has seen the NA VCL skyrocket to immediate success with a great mix of strong contending rosters and popular, clouted members. Split 1, which took place between February 1st and March 18th, culminated in an incredible clash at the Mid-Season Face Off between March 22nd and April 1st. From the abyss of battles, M80 emerged as the champions over G2 in the exciting Grand Finals of the event.
Now, the battle will re-commence on April 18th, and run till May 19th. The 12 teams split across newly redistributed groups will once more battle it out across the two groups for a chance in the playoffs. 12 teams (6 invited and 6 through open qualifiers) will fight for a place at the Americas Ascension Tournament.
Tough Room (Path to Ascension)
As previously mentioned, NA VCL will offer two spots to the Americas Ascension Tournament (one of the three that will be held). The two spots will go to the two top performers of the 12-team league. However, they won’t be alone. The Americas Ascension Tournament will feature a total of six teams: two from North America, two from Latin America (one from North and South apiece), and two from Brazil. The winner of the event will earn a two-year promotion to the VCT Americas.
Furthermore, the same will apply for the other two Ascension tournaments, bringing the total partner organizations in 2024 to a total of 33 from 30 this year. However, as mentioned, at the end of the two-year period, the promoted Challenger organization will return to their Challengers League and will have to re-earn their promotion once more.
Format and Distribution
The NA VCL for Split 2 will feature a similar format as Split 1, with a round robin format for each of the six teams to play, allowing each team to play a total of five games across five weeks. The rosters were distributed based on seeding and performance during Split 1.
