The world's top Counter-Strike: Global Offensive teams have gathered in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil for the semifinals of the Intel Extreme Masters (IEM) Rio 2023.

The competition has been fierce thus far, with sixteen of the world's best teams battling it out for a chance at glory in one of Counter Strike’s most passionate regions. With only four teams remaining in the tournament, the stakes are higher than ever before. The semifinals promise to be an intense and thrilling display of skill and strategy, as each team fights for their chance at glory and the title of IEM Rio 2023 champion.

Both matches were BO3, and the winners are going to face each other in the Grand Finals.

Game 1: NaVi vs Heroic

Even though NaVi had a spectacular run without dropping a single map in the group stages, it was still not enough to knock Heroic off their arrogant form. The Danes took the series 2-0.

  1. Heroic removed Anubis
  2. Natus Vincere removed Vertigo
  3. Heroic picked Overpass
  4. Natus Vincere picked Ancient
  5. Heroic removed Nuke
  6. Natus Vincere removed Mirage
  7. Inferno was left over

Map 1 was Overpass, where both teams locked horns.NaVi managed to get to Map Point first. But Heroic refused to give up, pushing the map into overtime. Both teams pushed the game into Overtime no. 6. But in the end it was Cadian and the Danes who rose above, winning the map 25-22.

NaVi went into Map 2 Ancient with a grim atmosphere around them. Heroic took full advantage, as they started off the first half with a 10 round win streak.. They ended the first half 14-1. NaVi seemed like they had come to life for a bit, as they also won 8 rounds straight in the second half. But Heroic decided that they had had enough, and closed the map at a brutal 16-9.

It was TeSeS who stepped up for Heroic as he topped the table with 61 kills and a 1.28 rating.

Game 2: Cloud9 vs Team Vitality

Vitality have finally come to the point where they can show why they’re one of the best in the world. They beat Cloud9 2-1 in the series, and moved on to the Grand Finals.

  1. Vitality removed Ancient
  2. Cloud9 removed Nuke
  3. Vitality picked Inferno
  4. Cloud9 picked Vertigo
  5. Vitality removed Mirage
  6. Cloud9 removed Anubis
  7. Overpass was left over

In the opening map of Inferno, Cloud9 almost humiliated Vitality. The first half ended at a decent 9-6 in favor of Cloud9. In the second half, NAFANY and co. showed everyone a T-side masterclass, as they did not allow Vitality to win a single round. They won the map 16-6.

Map 2 was Vertigo, and it was proceeding in a similar fashion. Cloud9 ended the first half on their T-side at 12-3. However, VItality managed to muster an amazing comeback. And managed to push the map into Overtime. They made short work of the extra rounds, as they won the map 19-16.

Final map was Overpass, and VItality went into it with newfound confidence. They managed to completely dominate the first half, ending at 12-3. ZywOo started the second half with a cool little pistol 4k. Cloud9 fought back a bit, bringing their tally up to 9. But Vitality decided to end it, and won the map 16-9.

Showing all the doubters and haters, it was Sh1ro at the top of the table with 77 kills and a 1.39 rating.

Another Early Exit, Same Old Story: Team Falcons Are Running Out Of Excuses

There is a cruel irony at the heart of Team Falcons' CS2 project. Hand someone from 2022 their current roster sheet — NiKo, m0NESY, TeSeS, Kyxsan, kyosuke, all under the tutelage of five-time Major-winning coach Zonic — and they would confidently declare this team the undisputed best in the world. And yet, here we are in March 2026, watching Falcons get knocked out of BLAST Open Spring in the quarterfinals by PARIVISION.
