HUNDEN appointed as Head Coach of Danish CSGO Team
Sashi Esport, a Danish CS:GO organization, is undergoing a significant restructuring phase under the leadership of two previously banned cheaters—Allan "Rejin" Petersen and Nicolai "HUNDEN" Petersen. The controversial hirings of these coaches, who were caught using the coach spectator bug during the Esports Integrity Commission (ESIC)'s investigation in 2020, are expected to generate considerable backlash.
Meet the New Leadership:
Allan "Rejin" Petersen - Sports Director: On June 30, 2023, Sashi appointed Rejin as its new sports director. Before joining Sashi, Rejin had been serving as Endpoint's head coach.
Nicolai "HUNDEN" Petersen - Head Coach: On July 17, 2023, HUNDEN was introduced as Sashi's head coach. Despite his controversial history, HUNDEN had his two-year ban surprisingly overturned at the end of 2022. And is now allowed to participate in ESIC events once again.
The Coach Spectator Bug Controversy:
Both Rejin and HUNDEN were caught exploiting the infamous coach spectator bug in 2020, which allowed coaches to gain an unfair advantage during live matches. Rejin used the bug on seven occasions, while HUNDEN used it on two maps. As a result, they were banned from coaching in Valve-sponsored Majors, with Rejin permanently banned and HUNDEN banned until the conclusion of the PGL Copenhagen CS2 Major in 2024.
The Community's Reaction:
The community's response to Sashi's decision to hire HUNDEN as head coach has been overwhelmingly negative. Given HUNDEN's controversial history and previous involvement in sharing sensitive information with a competitor. Many are skeptical about his role in leading the team's restructuring process.
Sashi Esport's "Restructuring" Plan:
While previously housing veterans such as MSL and aizy on its roster. Now Sashi Esport is now left with only one active player, Mikkel "n1xen" Borlund. HUNDEN and Rejin will likely be scouting for four new players to complete the team's lineup for upcoming tournaments.
HUNDEN's Coaching Journey:
HUNDEN spent the majority of his coaching career with Heroic from 2020 to 2021. And lead the Danish squad to significant achievements. Including first place at ESL One Cologne 2020 Europe and a No. 2 spot on the HLTV rankings. However, his coaching stint was temporarily halted when he was suspended due to his involvement in the coach spectator bug scandal. After his ban expired, Heroic terminated his contract. Citing allegations of sharing sensitive team information with a major competitor.
Conclusion:
Sashi Esport's decision to bring on previously banned cheaters Rejin and HUNDEN as part of its restructuring has sparked controversy and received criticism from the CS:GO community. As the team moves forward with its new leadership, all eyes will be on HUNDEN and Rejin to see how they guide the team and whether they can regain the community's trust.
