The VALORANT Masters Madrid playoffs started yesterday. Today, Gen.G took on Sentinels in the Upper Finals for a Grand Finals spot.

Prologue

After winning their respective regional titles, Gen.G and Sentinels came in as the favorites to win the title.

In the tournament, Gen.G and Sentinels dominated the Swiss stage with a 2-0 record securing Playoffs. Despite the distinct playstyles, both teams have great players who can win the round themselves.

The teams also have equally interesting journeys. Sentinels come off a three-year International tournament drought. Gen.G switched to Korea in 2023 and despite the team’s good start had an unfortunate ending and missed out on both International tournaments.

2024 is a year of redemption for both the teams and it is already a strong year for both.

The Game

The game started on Split, a map Sentinels has a four game win-streak on. Gen.G's double-duelist composition ‘Split’ opened the SEN defense securing a strong 8-4 lead.

Despite the dominant scoreline, the rounds were much closer, unfortunately Sentinels could not close out rounds, losing the game 5-13.

Sentinels came back strong on Lotus, winning the first half 7-5. Gen.G immediately closed the gap in the second half.

Sentinels' defense came through on round 15, with Zellsis, Zekken and JohnQT shutting down the Gen.G, winning six rounds to secure a third map.

Gen.G outclassed Sentinels on Breeze. They repeatedly shutdown the incoming attack waves, securing the game 2-1.

With the win, Gen.G became the first team to secure VALORANT Masters Madrid Grand Finals. They are also the first Korean team to secure an International VALORANT Grand Finals
