In the immediate off-season for the LCK, Gen.G were quick off the foot to announce the departure of several of their players. No tears were shed, as four of the starting five were shown the door, leaving only rookie AD Carry Kim “Peyz” Su-hwan as the solo holdout from the roster to survive.

Since then, Gen.G have re-signed their star Mid Laner Jeong “Chovy” Ji-hoon, but brought in three new faces to help these two stars secure more than domestic titles in 2024.

Gen.G 2024 LCK Starting Roster

  • Mid Lane: Jeong “Chovy” Ji-hoon
  • AD Carry: Kim “Peyz” Su-hwan

Going for another run at the ‘Super-Team’

The retention of Peyz was the only expected outcome from this entire roster move of Gen.G. The 17-year-old AD Carry was phenomenal in his debut, showcasing his impressive spacing and mechanics at such a young age already. During Gen.G’s international runs, he was easily the standout element of the roster.

The securing of Chovy for another year was a different question. The 22-year-old mid laner may be known for his near robotic precision and mechanics, but frustration still lands all the same. With his contract having expired at the end of this season, Chovy was effectively a free agent, and had plenty of suitors in both the LCK and especially the LPL, according to reports. Ultimately, he chose to stay with the Korean organization.

The signing of Canyon was perhaps the most impressive feat for Gen.G. Canyon had gone on record to state that ‘salary was not the primary concern; his main goal was to win (with Gen.G)’. This marked a massive departure for the LCK jungler, who had spent the last half decade with Dplus KIA (then known as DAMWON). He began his career in DAMWON and until this year, has never swayed from the organization.

Lastly, there will be a reunion between Chovy and Lehends, who were part of the Gen.G roster in 2022. Both Lehends and Kiin hail from KT Rolster, where despite an impressive try, they were unable to make it past the Quarterfinals.

Decent Year, Domestically

Gen.G’s roster in recent times has become synonymous with choking and underperformance. Despite that, Gen.G has had a relatively strong 2023. They managed to emerge victorious in both LCK split playoffs, defeating T1 both times. They also made it to the Quarterfinals of Worlds and top 4 at MSI.
