New Hires For New Medium

Riot Game’s tactical FPS Valorant will be on even more mediums soon as the popular FPS title is set to arrive on consoles in the future.

News has come down the pipeline that Riot has been posting job posts for game designers. The job specifics detail someone to ‘help bring console game products to market.’ Moreover, other job postings over the last week or so include descriptions for a game designer manager to work on the console version of Valorant.

As of now, it seems Riot has plans to release Valorant for consoles in the future, however that future is still some ways off. More information on the console release day will likely arrive later this year or more likely sometime next year. Riot Games has a portfolio of games that spans multiple genres, across FPS, MOBAs, Auto Battlers, Digital Collectible Card Games, Fighting, RPG, MMORPGS to name a few.

More than that, they have also released their games on multiple platforms including Android, iOS, macOS and Windows of course. Now, it appears they are looking to expand into the console space.

Console as a Medium

The arrival of a popular shooter like Valorant to a medium like consoles is an exciting prospect. The opportunity for more gamers to join the sensation and growing family of fans is cause for celebration.

That said, the rivalry between Xbox and PlayStation in particular is a well-documented one. It remains to be seen if Valorant will become an exclusive to either console, such as in popular cases like Marvel’s Spider-Man and God of War. Early data mines, however, have suggested the game will be available to both at least, according to the leaked additions of two new icons to the game for PlayStation and Xbox.

Moreover, earlier this year during the Xbox showcase, it was also revealed that the Xbox Game Pass would allow players to unlock perks such as card packs in Legends of Runeterra and agents in Valorant.

FPS as a Console

The rivalry between Console and PC is an age as old as time, moreso when it relates to FPS. Popular titles like Call of Duty, Apex Legends and Overwatch are points of contention for which is a better experience and better medium. However, the closest title of reference for Valorant, would be Counter-Strike. While diehard fans of the franchise will attest to the PC game’s popularity, there is a lesser-known version of it on the Xbox. Counter-Strike: GO is an underdeveloped version of the popular shooter title released in 2003.

In more recent times, Valve has also released the Steam Controller and the Steam Deck, both in efforts to lessen the gap between console and PC gamers for titles like their Counter-Strike franchise. Reviewers of the products have alluded to its success in design and praised the idea.
