G2 Esports just made VALORANT history by taking down Sentinels at the VCT 2025 Americas Stage 1 Grand Finals to become the first team to secure back-to-back trophies in the region.

After coming oh-so-close to lifting their first international trophy at Bangkok just months ago, G2 will soon set their sights on the upcoming Masters Toronto. For now, though, the G2 squad will get some much deserved rest after becoming the undisputed Kings of the Americas.

Taking the long way round

It seems ridiculous to think it was only a week ago that G2 stood on the brink of missing out on Masters Toronto altogether. After an early loss to none other than Sentinels during the first round of playoffs, G2 were forced to battle through the Lower Bracket for the remainder of the tournament.

There, the Americas Champions played 100 Thieves first, where they may well have been eliminated there and then were it not for a dramatic third map win in overtime. Up next, against Evil Geniuses, the team went all three maps again, where they were able to win after yet another close call to stave off elimination from Stage 1, and Masters Toronto, for the second time in a matter of days.

The team only grew in confidence from then on however. After taking down aspas and MIBR in the Lower Bracket Finals, G2 showed up to the Grand Finals thirsty to exact revenge on a Sentinels squad that were largely responsible for the team's grueling run at these playoffs. And exact it they did, as G2 took down Sentinels in the Bo5 finals with a 3-1 scoreline to return to the throne once more after defeating four of the best teams in the region in consecutive fashion.

Making history

The levels of dominance shown by G2 in the Americas are simply unprecedented in the region. Ever since the start of the partnership era in 2023, the Americas had seen a total of five different champions across five different tournaments. That is, until now.

With their win over Sentinels, G2 have made VCT history by becoming the first team to lift consecutive trophies in the Americas. Meanwhile, trent continues to impress for G2, leading the team to two trophies while earning back-to-back MVP awards for himself as well. During the Finals, the North American star blew Sentinels out of the water by putting up the highest number of kills (73) and ADR (154) over the series, finishing up with a total ACS of 220.

Toronto awaits

Celebrations over in the G2 camp will need to be brief, as the time will soon come to make amends for Masters Bangkok with a win at Toronto. Though the entire G2 squad would no doubt love to be able to claim revenge against T1 after their dramatic Finals at the last Masters event, the American team will not get the chance to do so after T1's shocking elimination at the hands of Paper Rex over in the Pacific earlier this week.

Having ruthlessly taken over the Americas, will G2 find a way to assert their dominance on the international stage this time around?
