The Counter-Strike community was rocked by serious allegations on October 26, 2025, when prominent skin trader MitaoCatCS publicly accused former professional player and Major champion Jake "Stewie2k" Yip of scamming them out of approximately $25,000 worth of skins. The accusation, posted on social media, has ignited fierce debate within the CS2 scene and cast a shadow over one of North America's most decorated players.

The Details Behind the Alleged Scam

According to MitaoCatCS, the transaction centered around high-value Counter-Strike 2 skins that Stewie2k allegedly agreed to purchase in October 2025. The trade reportedly involved several premium items, including a Karambit Case Hardened (Factory New), Butterfly Doppler (Phase 1), Butterfly Knife Slaughter (Factory New), Karambit Fade (Phase 4), Vice Gloves (Well-Worn), and M9 Bayonet Gamma Doppler.

MitaoCatCS claims they sent payment or skins in advance, expecting Stewie2k to complete his end of the deal once the trade hold period ended. Instead, Stewie2k allegedly backed out without returning the funds or items, citing vague "technical issues" and claiming that trades had been "automatically canceled by bots".

Stewie2k's Defense: A Loan Gone Wrong?

During a recent stream on October 27, 2025, Stewie2k addressed the controversy briefly, offering his perspective on the situation. His response suggests the transaction may have been framed as a loan rather than a straightforward trade. Stewie2k claimed the arrangement had been extended for "a month and a half," acknowledging that he has loaned money to people before but emphasizing that loans inherently carry risk and uncertainty.

In his defense, Stewie2k stated that both parties had already agreed on the terms of the arrangement and questioned why MitaoCatCS was continuing to pursue the matter.

"We already agreed on everything, I don't even know why we're backtracking."

His comments suggest he believes the matter should be considered resolved based on their prior agreement, though he did not explicitly clarify whether a refund had been issued or when one would be provided.

When addressing his history with gambling and skin trading, Stewie2k acknowledged his past involvement with gambling platforms like Roobet during the COVID-19 pandemic. He revealed that he won $100,000 from gambling at one point but claimed he stopped engaging in gambling after that major win. When addressing the MitaoCatCS allegations directly, he questioned how the transaction could be classified as a scam, suggesting confusion or disagreement over the nature of the dispute.

Suspicious Evidence and Photoshop Accusations

To defend himself, Stewie2k allegedly sent a screenshot of a Steam trade log showing the exchange was canceled on October 16 at 7:33 AM. However, MitaoCatCS quickly identified inconsistencies in the image, noting that the timestamp reportedly predated an official CS2 update. This led to accusations that the screenshot had been doctored using Photoshop, with MitaoCatCS calling the explanation about "bots rolling back the trade" a fabrication meant to mislead.

Following the initial dispute, Stewie2k allegedly promised multiple times to issue a refund, claiming he would do so on November 13 once he "received payment from another deal". Those promises were never fulfilled, and communication eventually stopped altogether. Frustrated by the lack of response and resolution, MitaoCatCS published screenshots of the entire exchange on social media.

Community Response and Speculation

The allegations spread rapidly across Reddit and social media, with the CS2 trading community expressing shock and disappointment. Many users noted concerning patterns in Stewie2k's recent behavior, with some speculating about potential gambling or substance abuse issues affecting the former pro. Comments ranged from sympathy for MitaoCatCS to disbelief that a Major champion would risk his reputation over such a transaction.

This controversy highlights ongoing trust and security issues within the CS2 skin trading ecosystem. The incident serves as a stark reminder that even well-known personalities with established reputations can become entangled in questionable transactions. Stewie2k's vague responses and shifting explanations have only fueled further speculation about the true nature of the dispute and whether a resolution will ever be reached.
