Despite their phenomenal performances in 2022, many people doubted that FaZe Clan will win the fourth season of the Intel Grand Slam. And it’s understandable why. With so many great teams around, FaZe were going to have to play their best CS:GO to claim another S-tier title. And they were not looking capable of it.

But at ESL Pro League Season 17, everything clicked for them. Robin “ropz” Kool won the MVP award and was phenomenal throughout the tournament. Finn “karrigan” Andersen’s leadership was highly effective and resulted in many effortless map wins for FaZe.

And on top of all this, the scariest teams in the tournament failed to reach the Grand Final. FaZe Clan had to compete against Cloud9 for the trophy, which made their mission relatively easy. If their opponent would have been G2 Esports or Team Vitality, the result might have been completely different.

How FaZe Claimed the Intel Grand Slam

In 2022, FaZe had a great season and ended up winning four S-tier tournaments. Three of those tournaments were on the list of the Intel Grand Slam Season 4 competition. That meant that FaZe needed just one more relevant S-tier trophy to win IGS S4. And EPL S17 was one of their last several chances to complete this epic journey.

At IEM Katowice, FaZe had no chance of achieving their ambitions. Too many top teams were in great shape while they were struggling to train properly. There were some motivation problems, as well as some roster issues created by a few players’ personal lives and what they were going through at the time.

But at ESL Pro League S17, everything went well for FaZe. The team finished second in group C and then won four consecutive matches in the playoffs. Their opponents were FURIA Esports (2-0), forZe (2-1), Natus Vincere (2-1), and Cloud9 (3-1).

Another Early Exit, Same Old Story: Team Falcons Are Running Out Of Excuses

There is a cruel irony at the heart of Team Falcons' CS2 project. Hand someone from 2022 their current roster sheet — NiKo, m0NESY, TeSeS, Kyxsan, kyosuke, all under the tutelage of five-time Major-winning coach Zonic — and they would confidently declare this team the undisputed best in the world. And yet, here we are in March 2026, watching Falcons get knocked out of BLAST Open Spring in the quarterfinals by PARIVISION.
