Counter-Strike 747 is a unique hostage rescue map set inside a hijacked Boeing 747. It features tight corridors, close-quarters combat, and a mix of open and enclosed spaces. Players must adapt their strategies based on the map's design, as ambushes, sniping, and tactical positioning play a huge role in success.

Sniper rifles are useful outside the plane, where long sightlines provide an advantage. Inside, shotguns and submachine guns dominate due to the tight spaces. Players can use flashbangs to clear out ambushes and take control of key areas. The map's layout forces both teams to fight for control in specific hotspots, where the battle can shift at any moment.

Hot Spots

Outside/Roof

The outside area and roof see the most combat each round. Players rushing to the plane risk becoming easy targets for snipers, who often camp on the roof. Controlling this area provides a significant advantage, as it offers a clear view of the battlefield.

Counter-Terrorists typically dominate this area early in the round because their spawn is closer. However, if Terrorists secure the roof, they can block hostages from being rescued. The roof also serves as an entry point to the cockpit, but misjudged jumps can result in fall damage or death. Running, jumping, and crouching at the right moment helps minimize damage when making this move.

Crawlspace (Cargo Hold)

The cargo hold is dark and cramped, making it a dangerous area for both teams. Ambushes are common here, with players hiding behind stacks of luggage. Flashbangs are effective for clearing out enemies, but Terrorists often camp near the ladder or stairwell to catch opponents off guard.

Night vision goggles improve visibility in the cargo hold, making it easier to spot hidden threats. If no enemies are encountered, they are likely positioned deeper in the plane or waiting in ambush above.

Inside the Plane

Inside the 747, combat is fast-paced and chaotic. The tight layout forces close-quarters battles where shotguns and submachine guns excel. Curtains inside the plane allow for "wallbanging," as bullets can penetrate them. Skilled players use this to pre-fire enemies before pushing forward.

Bots take full advantage of this mechanic, accurately firing through curtains. Flashbangs and smoke grenades are essential tools for gaining control. Tactical shields also provide a defensive advantage, allowing players to push through the narrow corridors safely. However, HE grenades should be avoided, as they can damage or kill hostages.

Additional Areas

CT Spawn Zone

This area remains quiet until Counter-Terrorists attempt to escort hostages back to safety. Terrorists often use the dark passageways to flank and ambush rescuers. While it serves as a staging ground for CTs early in the round, it becomes a contested area as the round progresses.

Tips and Tricks

Choose the Right Weapons

747 is a tight, close-quarters map, making shotguns and submachine guns the best choices. Sniper rifles are ineffective unless hostages are camped outside, which rarely happens. Flashbangs and smoke grenades are useful for clearing out ambushes, while explosives should be avoided to prevent harming hostages.

Use Alternative Entry Points

There are three ways to enter the plane. The main entrance is located at the base of the aircraft. A tunnel from the CT spawn provides an alternative entry, while the cockpit entrance is another route. Be cautious when entering, as enemies may be waiting in ambush.

Take Advantage of Night Vision Goggles

Some sections of the map are extremely dark, making it difficult to spot enemies. Night vision goggles help improve visibility, especially in areas like the cargo hold.

Watch for Camping Spots

747 has multiple camping locations. Check common spots near luggage stacks, corners, and stairwells. Terrorists often camp inside the plane, while CTs may encounter ambushes when escorting hostages.

Shoot Through Curtains

The plane contains several curtains that can be shot through. Use this to your advantage by pre-firing at enemy hiding spots. Be cautious, as bots can see through curtains and may fire back with accuracy.

Escort Hostages Carefully

Counter-Terrorists must escort hostages to the designated rescue zones. These are located near the main entrance and close to the CT spawn. The trek is slow, making it easy for Terrorists to ambush the CTs. Plan a clear path before moving hostages to safety.

Development

747 was first created by Leon Nieuwoudt in 1999. He completed most of the aircraft’s design but had to leave the project unfinished due to time constraints. Stephen "Judas" Superville later completed the map, optimizing it for online play and making significant changes to its layout.

The map debuted in Counter-Strike beta 6.0. Updates in beta 6.5 removed solid curtains between compartments, making movement easier. Beta 7.0 introduced brightness adjustments, removed an entrance and exit, and modified the terminal route.

Trivia

747 is the only official hostage rescue map with five hostages. However, only four appear on the HUD in some versions of the game.

A vent underneath a seat on the plane allows players to crawl through to the rear. Bots struggle with navigation, sometimes jumping off the building or getting stuck in tight areas.

Players can enter the cockpit by jumping from the roof and breaking the windows. Properly timed jumps prevent fall damage. Inside the plane, a dog’s barking can be heard in the cargo hold.

A hidden Easter egg is located on the roof: a red "SS" symbol, referencing Stephen Superville. The room containing this signature has flickering lights, making it unsettling for players sensitive to rapid flashes.

Conclusion

Counter-Strike 747 is a challenging map that tests players' ability to handle close-quarters combat and open-area engagements. Mastering movement, using the right weapons, and controlling key areas can turn the tide of battle. Whether playing as a Counter-Terrorist rescuing hostages or a Terrorist preventing their escape, strategic play is the key to success.
