The International 2023 is around the corner, and a couple of teams have already qualified for the tournament, with some locking their roster for the upcoming International 2023 qualifiers. However, Entity caught everyone off guard with their recent roster change.

Recently, the team parted ways with their offlane player, Tobias "Tobi" Buchner, who has been with the team since the start of Entity. Tobi played a pivotal part in the team’s sudden rise to success. The team even secured a slot at the recent International 2022, where they got eliminated by Team Liquid in round 2 of the lower brackets, securing a 9th-12th finish.

Tobi’s Rise to Fame

Tobi came into the competitive Dota 2 scene with Vikin.GG and he won multiple tier 2 tournaments. However, he got replaced by Khezu before the disbanding of the roster. Later that same year, Entity picked up Tobi. Along with Entity, Tobi managed to secure a couple of top finishes. His most successful season thus far was the 2021-2022 DPC season, where he helped Entity place first at the DPC 2021-2022 Winter Tour.

Sudden Rise and Sudden Fall

Entity acquired Creepwave in November of 2021 to come into the Dota 2 professional scene. Since its debut, Entity has been considered one of the top-tier teams in the Western European region, with Tobi playing a pivotal part in the team.

In the early half of the 2022-2023 DPC Season, Entity show its dominance in the region, qualifying for The Lima Major. However, despite dominating the group stages, Entity failed to keep up in the playoffs, securing a 5th-6th place finish.

After the Lima Major, the team started to show its cracks. At the Spring Tour, Entity merely escaped relegations with a score of two wins and five losses. They won against Nigma Galaxy and Monaspa to avoid relegations. In the Summer Tour, Entity once again was at risk of relegation. However, they again won the tiebreaker series against D1 Hustlers to keep their Division I spot. Trying to avoid relegations, the team failed to qualify for The Berlin Major and The Bali Major.

Failing to qualify for these tournaments has a massive impact on Entity.  They couldn’t obtain crucial points to secure a direct invite to The International 2023. Moreover, the team is in 24th place in the overall DPC ranking with only 208 DPC points. They will have to fight through the open qualifiers if they want to have a seat at this year’s iteration of The International.
