At the VCT Pacific superweek, DRX took on Team Secret in a best-of-three. In the game, Team Secret pulled an upset over DRX, defeating them 2-0. After the loss, Strafe interviewed DRX’s Head Coach Pyeon “Termi” Seon-Ho. In an exclusive, one-on-one interview, DRX Termi talks about the team’s loss, game plan for superweek, playoff preparation and more.

Q. First of all, sorry for your loss. What do you think went wrong in the match?

DRX Termi: “I am not sure. Other than anything else I think Team Secret had a lot on the line so the prepared absolutely amazingly against us”

Q. What were the biggest takeaways from the loss?

DRX Termi: “I don’t think the players underestimate anyone. We always tell the players not to do so. I am not sure if there are any takeaways, it's just we did not play to our standards today. I think that’s how we can summarise this.”

Q. Does the loss affect the team’s atmosphere at all?

DRX Termi: “Not at all actually. During every match of our season, we always tell ourselves any match is not guaranteed we can always lose a match. If anything I am glad the loss came now and not the playoffs so the players can grow from this”

Q. With you already pretty much securing the first seed. What was the game plan coming into the superweek?

DRX Termi: “I don’t think I can comment on that. What we prepared will be shown in the playoffs not right now”

Q. What was the biggest struggle for DRX during the season?

DRX Termi: “I think this is the same for every team out there. Even though we have been one of the longer-tenured team, I think that our communication isn’t perfect and that it is something we need to work on”

Q. We saw Zest returning to the starting roster today. What was the reason behind Zest’s return?

DRX Termi: “There are a lot of reasons for this. But we can only answer this after the playoffs so no comment”

Q. We saw BuZz returning to Jett today and it didn’t seem like he missed a beat playing his old agent. Do you think that encourages you to make more experimental decisions with the player composition and starting five?

DRX Termi: “We always knew that BuZz is a great Jett even though he hasn’t played it for a while. In terms of the actual composition nothing is certain as of now. But at the same time, we can say that we have these amazing Jett players on our roster so anyone can actually play it so will utilise that at the specific time”

Q. Foxy9 has been the latest addition to the team. What are your thoughts on his performance throughout the season?

DRX Termi: “I think Foxy9 is actually learning proper Valorant under our team for the first time. As you see on stage, he’s very aggressive, I think he’ll be a pretty solid Valorant player in the future. And he’s well on his way right now”

Q. How challenging was it to incorporate Foxy9’s aggressive Jett in the already existing DRX?

DRX Termi: “Overall It wasn’t hard to intervene him into our setplays, team plays and the roster. If anything, the coaching staff kinda focused on the minor details, meticulous details he had to work on but overall it wasn’t a big change or adjustment for us”

Q. We see you call a lot of timeouts during the games but today you didn’t utilise them. What was the reason?

DRX Termi: “So actually even before I was contemplating about calling timeouts the players were actually communicating very well about what went wrong and what was happening. So I didn’t feel the need to call the timeouts because they were already saying what I was going to say. If anything I would call the timeouts more strategically in the playoffs again”

Q. Who do you want to face in Tokyo?

DRX Termi: “Right now I want to face North America’s first team LOUD and Europe’s first team Fnatic. We were all in the same place during LOCK//IN and I wanna see how we fare right now with our current strategies against them”

Q. Which team do you want to see with you, representing the Pacific?

DRX Termi: “Right now I kinda want Paper Rex who always represents the Pacific with us and I also want GenG in Tokyo.”

DRX completed the VCT Pacific season as the first seed losing only one game. As the first seed, they are placed in the upper semifinals and will play the winner of ZETA Division vs. Team Secret.
