Counter-Strike 2 Update: Genesis Collection, Arms Dealer Terminal, Improved Subtick Shooting

Earlier today, September 16, Valve released a new update to Counter-Strike 2, debuting a new collection and an all-new way to buy Counter-Strike skins.

The update also aims to improve subtick shooting consistency, and introduces new grenade sounds and new inspect options as well.

Genesis Collection and an All-New Way to Buy Skins

The update comes with a new Genesis Collection, featuring 17 new skins. Unlike the other collections that are either available via the weekly drop or through the Armory, the new Genesis Collection can only be accessed via the Genesis Uplink Terminal available as weekly drop.

How to Use the Genesis Uplink Terminal?

Once you are dropped a Genesis Uplink Terminal:

  • Unseal the terminal
  • Chat with the Genesis “Arms Dealer” to get an offer for a random skin
  • If you accept the offer, you’d pay money from your Steam balance and get the skins
  • Upon rejection, the Arms Dealer makes another offer, up to 5 total offers

The price of the skin depends on the rarity and the float. The Genesis Uplink Terminal also displays a Collection Catalog XP, which fills up depending on the offered skins. This might hint towards possible unique skin offerings available with every terminal.

We will cover all the skins and their prices in a separate article.

Game and UI Update

The update also introduces new draw, inspect, pin-pull and throw sounds for all grenades. It also mentions improvements made to the subtick shooting consistency, which is most likely an improvement to the hit registration, but more details regarding this are unknown.

Another interesting update to the game itself is the ability to inspect teammate loadout while spectating. If you are dead and spectating a teammate, you can press [F] to inspect their complete CT/T-sided loadout.

Lastly, now you can zoom when inspecting items or applying stickers or charms.

Java Script to CS

The update introduces cs_script, a JavaScript based scripting system to Counter-Strike maps. This will allow community designers to create custom modes more freely and without the limitations of Counter-Strike mechanics.

While inconsequential to the casual player base, this update essentially broadens the Counter-Strike horizon, essentially adding an elevated “sandbox” element to the game. And we all know sandbox games are the new thing *cough* Roblox *cough*.

The September 16 update might not be the biggest, but the ability to directly buy skins, improved skin customization options, and cs_scripting does leave a lasting impact on the game itself.
