Bwipo remains team-less ahead of the 2023 season: "they did not want me"

Legendary top-laner, Gabriël "Bwipo" Rau, went live on his Twitch stream to explain his moves for the 2023 season. Bwipo explains despite reaching out to all 10 LCS teams, none of the 10 teams wanted to sign him.

Bwipo began his career in the League of Legends EMEA Championship (LEC), gaining a name for himself on one of EU's most legendary organizations: Fnatic (FNC). While his career is spent chiefly as a top laner, he did role-swap to jungle for a split, in order to make way for rookie Adam "Adam" Maanane in the top lane. Bwipo even had a short stint as ADC for Fnatic for just over a month.

ZERO NA OFFERS

It seems every off-season, there are a couple excellent players left out to dry. Last off-season, it was long-standing LCS mid-laner Nicolaj "Jensen" Jensen who was left team-less for the first half of the 2022 season, before eventually resigning with Cloud 9 (C9) for the Summer 2022 Split.

While Bwipo is still under contract for Team Liquid (TL), it seems the organization is going in a different direction without their star Belgian player in the top lane. TL did allow Bwipo to explore options for the 2023 season apart from the Team Liquid organization. While live on Twitch, Bwipo shared his experience with reaching out to potential LCS teams.

"I reached out to all 10 LCS teams, they did not want me," explains Bwipo in a Twitch stream on November 27. Interestingly, Bwipo also mentions he had received a "great offer" from Vitality (VIT), but it was too early in the off-season for Bwipo to come to a decision. Furthermore, Bwipo explains he had moved everything to North America because "[he] expected to stay in Team Liquid," another notch against returning to the EMEA in his eyes.

THE NEXT MOVE

As it stands, Bwipo will continue making content and streaming for Team Liquid, planning to grind solo queue and champions queue for his expected return in the 2023 Summer Split. Although Bwipo is team-less for the 2023 Spring Split, it would be a shock to see Bwipo go an entire year without an offer to a new organization, or another shot at starting for Team Liquid.
