Watch your backs…

The VCT LOCK//IN event in São Paulo, Brazil continues with the Omega side of the bracket. Strafe Esports made a bold prediction that EDG would come into this tournament swinging, and swing they did. Vitality pulled ahead, FUT smashed competition, and 100 Thieves faced one of their hardest matches ever.

VCT LOCK//IN Day 8 Match Results

Team Vitality vs Global Esports [2-1]

This was an exciting game, that featured the first debut of the reworked Global Esports roster, versus the perennial underdogs, Team Vitality, who many continue to discount. The first map of Split was absolutely a convincing win for Vitality, taking the first half 9-3, before closing it out 13-4.

On Pearl, Global stepped up despite losing their own map pick. They would win 13-9, with “SkRossi”, “t3xture”, and “Monyet” especially stepping up with impressive multi-kills that wreaked havoc on Vitality’s economy for most of the game.

Despite all that however, Lotus would be cleanly taken 13-6 by Vitality once more, with a very convincing Attack side especially from them. “Twisten” especially had an amazing series, going +24 with 60/36/6, and “MOLSI” was right behind as well with a +14, 52/38/35 scoreline.

FUT Esports vs Rex Regum Qeon [2-0]

The Kings of Turkey clash with the Kings of Indonesia in this thrilling series. Despite a relatively slow start from RRQ, with them losing their map pick of Lotus, RRQ managed to bring some great performances on Pearl. On Lotus, FUT deserved massive credit for their well-executed defense half, that saw them win 10-2, before only allowing single more round for RRQ before winning it 13-3.

On Pearl, it went far better for RRQ, posting a 7-5 half with a powerful Attack half. However, in the Defense half, they struggled to find the same success as FUT tore through their lackluster defenses and abused their shaky static comp, that could not find opening picks, and could not retake well due to unpolished synergy.  They lost the map 13-11.

100 Thieves vs EDward Gaming [2-1]

One of the most thrilling series to date in VCT LOCK//IN, EDward Gaming were this close to slitting 100 Thieves throats. The first map, Icebox, was a tough game, with 100 Thieves off to a great start. EDward Gaming were successful on their site takes, however, 100 Thieves’ retakes were immaculate and they were able to thunder to a 8-4 half over EDG. Despite that, EDG managed a slight comeback to a 10-13 loss.

Lotus, on the other hand, was an amazingly well-played map from EDG, with “ZmjjKK” especially finding great value on the OP. EDG had many creative executes that sent 100 Thieves into a tailspin. Throughout the series, “CHICHOO” was a standout performer alongside “ZmjjKK”, with very well-timed flanks and clutches that tore apart 100 Thieves.

The final map was a nailbiter that saw EDG reach match point first. The seesaw of points and rounds that kept swinging towards either teams, delivered one of the best series of the VCT LOCK//IN thus far.
