As most teams have entered the boot camps stage to train for the upcoming International 2023, which is around the corner, Beastcoast, on the other hand, has gone with a slightly different approach. Recently, Beastcoast announced they are parting ways with their safelane core player, Héctor "K1" Rodríguez.

The Consequences

Beastcoast and K1 Part Ways

Parting ways with a player after qualifying for the Major came with a hefty price for Beastcoast. The team was on the path to qualifying for The International 2023. After parting ways with K1, Beastcoast lost 20% of their DPC points. Previously standing in 8th place with 1000 DPC points, after their roster shuffle, the team is now in 11th place with 800 DPC points. The team still have a chance to secure their ticket to The International 2023 if they manage to secure a 5th-6th place finish at The Bali Major.

Promising yet Disappointing Results

K1 caught the world’s attention during The International 2022. At that time, South American teams were not favourites for the tournament. However, Beastcaost and Thunder Awaken went on the underdog run, defying the odds stacks against them. Beastcoast went on to secure a 7th-8th place finish at Ti11.

The team secured multiple top-seed finishes in their region for the 2022-2023 DPC Season. However, they only met disappointment at LANs. In The Lima Major, they got eliminated by Evil Geniuses, the regional rival, during the first stage of the lower brackets, only securing a 9th-12th place finish.

In the Berlin Major, the team never made it out of the group stage. They were among the first teams to get eliminated. They only secured a 13th-14th place finish.

Moving On

The announcement caught the community off guard as Beastcoast has already qualified for the Bali Major, which will start in a few days. K1 went on a mental break from the team earlier this season and skipped DreamLeague Season 20. David "Parker" Nicho Flores filled his steed for the tournament. When Parker joined for DreamLeague Season 20, Beatcoast did foreshadow K1’s departure by stating that Parker would be with the team for the “rest of the season”.

As the time comes for Hector to get back into the game, Beastcoast has decided to make the difficult and mutual decision to part ways with K1. It was a longly awaited move. With K1 as a free agent, the player will have more opportunities with his previous records. The player has also mentioned he is willing to relocate for his new team.
