Another Day, Another NA Drama: ‘ShahZaM’ reopens old wounds in recent twitter feud with Sentinels CEO
Burn all the Bridges
Another day in the office for North American drama as the Valorant community exploded last night over a feud between Shahzeb “ShahZaM” Khan and Sentinels’ CEO, Rob Moore. The former was a player for Sentinels until October 2022, having played under the Sentinels brand for over 2 years. Sentinels released a tweet yesterday in their usual bid to play up on their playful ‘meme’ reputation. In the short video, it depicted current coach Don “SyykoNT” Muir spinning a wheel before calling over Tyson “TenZ” Ngo. The video served as a meme on the Sentinels' 2022 playbook.
However, former In-Game Leader "ShahZaM" went personal, as he called out his former organization for their handling of his departure. The organization was quoted by “ShahZaM” as saying, ‘…we don’t care if you win just make it hype…we’ll personally guarantee you a spot in franchising if you do’. ShahZaM's" reply seems to call out the addition of the popular streamer as a bid for clout rather than winning. He then criticizes Sentinels for breaking their word.
Whilst the Sentinels account manager tweeted back a calming, neutral response, the Sentinels’ CEO Rob Moore was less diplomatic. In it, he called out “ShahZaM” for his behaviour since departing the organization, stating that ‘since [ShahZaM] left all [ShahZaM] talked about it how [he] wants to be with the organization’, yet for all of 2022, ‘behaved like [he] didn’t want to be there.’ He also claimed no such agreement had been offered.
Old Wounds
"ShahZaM" has claimed that he learned of his departure through social media, when George Geddes published his article on Sentinels' roster. His inflammatory statement has ignited the community and split them a number of ways. Many are torn to believe between the two versions of the story, the one claimed by "ShahZaM", or the one claimed by Rob Moore. Moreover, "ShahZaM's" sudden statement also called former teammate "shroud" into the spotlight, with insinuations that the organization had only recruited him for the hype. He instead praised "shroud", saying the FPS player-turned-streamer had 'outperformed everyone's expectations.'
Opinions are split as 2022 was a rough year for the Sentinels roster, performance-wise. Many blamed "ShahZaM" for the roster's inconsistencies, and more looked at the team's inability to form a competitive roster. They went through a multitude of pickups in 2022, including "shroud", but were unable to translate into meaningful victories. "ShahZaM's" departure from Sentinels had come as no surprise, however, according to him, playing with "shroud" was the 'huge favor' that would be returned in the form of a guaranteed spot on the franchised roster.
As it stands, "ShahZaM" is currently playing for the G2 roster in the NA Challengers League. Meanwhile Sentinels is currently a partnered organization, who will battle in the International Leagues.
