In the third week of VCT Pacific league, Team Secret faced GenG in a best-of-three series. The match started well for Team Secret but despite the amazing performance they could not close the series. GenG defeated Team Secret 2-0 on the back of amazing performances by TS and K1ng. But Team Secret weren’t fazed by the loss and they will come back stronger in the next week. After the game, Strafe had an opportunity to interview TS’s IGL Jessie “JessieVash” Cuyco in an one-on-one interview. In the interview TS JessieVash talks about the game, upcoming changes, expectations and more.

Q. This was your first loss of the tournament, how do you feel about it?

TS JessieVash: "It's okay for me. It makes us stronger for next week. We learned a lot today. The cause of our loss was that we overthink too much because before VCT LOCK//IN we scrimmed them for a month straight. So we over thought that they'd know everything we do"

Q. You were close to winning on Fracture but could not do it? Why do you(TS JessieVash) think so?

TS JessieVash: "I think there was a lot of miscommunication in the later half of Fracture. We died a lot without trading. GenG's TS also came alive on Map 1 and Map 2 got a lot of important rounds.

Q. Haven was a strong map for you, but you(Team Secret) couldn't close it, why?

TS Jessievash: "As I told earlier, we scrimmed them too much and started overthinking it. They knew the most how we play so we didn't play our game"

Q. What do you(TS JessieVash) think you (Team Secret) need to work on before your next game?

TS JessieVash: “I think just be confident, the communication should be under control and not overthinking much. Lastly, just playing our game. Against GenG, we did not play our game, every round we were adjusting and not playing as we should play”

Q. How do you (TS JessieVash) balance calling and fragging?

TS JessieVash: “Normally when I play, I am used to seeing everything on the radar and not get distracted by it and die. I am focused on my game and so I can read the situations well and I know what they’d do based on their utility. It’s just we are unlucky sometimes doing our thing.”

Q. What are your(Team Secret) plans to use Lenne?

TS JessieVash: “We are working on integrating Lenne with the roster. We aren’t there yet. It’s not 100% but I want him to experience playing. So maybe in the upcoming weeks”

Q. Do you(Team Secret) plan to experiment with agent composition?

TS JessieVash: “We do plan to use Gekko on certain maps. Soon maybe, since the map we experiment on is banned”

Q. Bind will return in the upcoming weeks, what are your(TS JessieVash) thoughts on it?

TS JessieVash: “We haven’t tested bind yet. It will be complicated for us. But it will also be very good because it will help us with our communication. Normally, Bind is a trap set-up map, we need to communicate actively and work on our set-up more for conquering Bind”

Q. You’d(Team Secret) face RRQ and DFM in the upcoming weeks and they are relatively easier to face than DRX which will be your opponent in the last week. Winning these match-ups will secure you a spot in the playoffs. What are your(JessieVash) thoughts on it?

TS JessieVash: “I think we will be really comfortable playing DFM, RRQ etc. For us DRX, GenG are tough matches so I think we can win. For now I just need to work with my team on fixing problems and discuss how to fix them. We lost a lot of clutches and we’d just need to work on not letting that happen in the future.”

Q. What are your expectations from the season?

TS JessieVash: “Our Goal is to get at least first or second place in the group stage. So we only need one series to qualify for Masters. I think that’s the easiest way to do so. We expect DRX to be first or second in the group and we want to take the second spot so we can qualify for Masters Tokyo without needing to face them.”

Q. Who do you think will be the toughest to face apart from DRX?

TS JessieVash: “I think GES will be hard to face. They are really good and I don’t know what is happening with them now. I think now that SkRossi is back, he might play and they might be back on track.”

Team Secret will face RRQ in the VCT Pacific Week 4. RRQ got their first win in the third week over DFM. Team Secret will have a relatively easier two weeks going into their match-up against DRX in the final week. They will come prepared and stronger than ever to take down the final boss of VCT Pacific.
