The International 2025: Group Stage Results and Playoffs Schedule
The International 2025 Group Stage is over — and what a rollercoaster it turned out to be. Expectations were shattered, underdogs shone brighter than ever, and most of the hopefuls chasing a third championship run saw their dreams collapse during the Elimination Phase.
At this point, every team remaining can take pride in securing a Top 8 finish at The International 2025, a feat that cements their place in Dota 2 history. Out of all the regions represented, Southeast Asia suffered the most heartbreak, with no team making it to the Playoffs. In stark contrast, China has resurged in spectacular fashion, once again in position to potentially bring the Aegis of Champions home after years of European dominance.

The International 2025: Logic Flies Out the Window
Despite lacking that nostalgic “Christmas Morning Feeling” fans often associate with the magic of The International, from a competitive standpoint TI 2025 has been better than ever. Favorites were thrown into the Elimination Phase earlier than anyone predicted, while underdogs seized their moment in the spotlight. For analysts and fans alike, this meant that carefully crafted predictions fell apart almost immediately.
Front and center in the chaos was Xtreme Gaming, who stunned the competition with a flawless run. They advanced directly to the Playoffs with a perfect 4-0 record, taking down Aurora Gaming, Team Spirit, Team Falcons, and Team Tidebound in convincing fashion. The result sets up a golden opportunity for Chinese Dota 2 and gives their fans genuine hope that the Aegis could return to their region for the first time in nearly a decade.

Following closely behind, BetBoom Team secured second place, their only loss coming at the hands of Nigma Galaxy. Meanwhile, Team Tidebound claimed third, with their only stumble being against Xtreme Gaming. With those results, the stage was set for the Elimination Phase, with the following squads left to fight for survival:
- PARIVISION
- Aurora Gaming
- Heroic
- Team Falcons
- Team Liquid
- Nigma Galaxy
- Tundra Esports
- Yakutou Brothers
- Team Spirit
- Wildcard Gaming

For others, however, the road ended early. Team Nemesis, Natus Vincere, and BOOM Esports delivered admirable performances but fell short, bowing out as the three lowest-performing teams of the Group Stage.
Elimination Phase: Favorites Going Down
Barely catching their breath after the Group Stage, the ten lower-ranked teams that were not eliminated got thrown into the Elimination Phase. With five Playoff spots on the line, the competition quickly turned brutal.
The day opened with Heroic defeating Yakutou Brothers, earning what many considered the “easiest” Playoff slot. Next came Nigma Galaxy, who capped off their inconsistent but dramatic Group Stage by taking down Aurora Gaming to push forward.

In the third matchup, PARIVISION crushed Wildcard Gaming with a clean 2-0 sweep, showing little mercy as they advanced. The most dramatic clash followed, pitting two former champions against one another: Team Liquid versus Tundra Esports. After three exhausting maps, Tundra emerged victorious, knocking Liquid — the defending champions — out of the tournament.
Finally, the last series of the day delivered a shocking result. Team Spirit, widely considered one of the tournament favorites, faced Team Falcons in a matchup that could have easily been a Grand Finals pairing. Yet, Spirit fell flat, losing 2-0 and leaving TI 2025 before even reaching the main stage.
The International 2025: Playoffs Schedule
With the dust settling, all eyes now turn to the Playoffs, the main stage where legends are born. Xtreme Gaming enters as the new favorite and avoids facing another Chinese team in the opening round. Meanwhile, squads with Brazilian members appear destined to clash with one another, while PARIVISION and Heroic renew their growing rivalry.
As per the revamped TI format, there’s a short rest period before the Playoffs begin on September 11th. Every team starts in the Upper Bracket, with all series played as best-of-three contests and a best-of-five Grand Final. Here’s the official opening day schedule:
- 08:00 GMT — Xtreme Gaming vs. Tundra Esports
- 11:00 GMT — PARIVISION vs. Heroic
- 14:00 GMT — Team Tidebound vs. Team Falcons
- 17:00 GMT — BetBoom Team vs. Nigma Galaxy
New Matchups, New Favorites
With traditional powerhouses like Team Liquid and Team Spirit already eliminated, new contenders rise to prominence. Xtreme Gaming will once again have their strength tested against Tundra Esports in a matchup that could set the tone for the entire Upper Bracket.
For PARIVISION, fate has paired them against Heroic once again. Brazilian coach Astini now faces off against his fellow countrymen on the road to the top. Astini has consistently pushed teams beyond expectations — placing Top 8 with Nouns and Top 6 with Entity — and this time, he might go even further.
Heroic, however, already defied expectations by making it this far, proving that TI 2025 is perhaps the most underdog-friendly International of the decade.

The third Playoff opener will test whether Team Tidebound’s status as a title contender holds firm against Team Falcons. With China fielding such strong representation, this could be the best opportunity in years for the region to reclaim the Aegis — and for Bach to lift the Aegis once again as part of the last Chinese squad to win an International.
The day closes with a must-watch rematch: BetBoom Team vs. Nigma Galaxy. The two already clashed in the Group Stage, where Nigma pulled off a sensational “Rat Dota” revival to take a 2-1 victory. This time, BetBoom knows what to expect. The question is: can they adapt, or will Nigma’s unpredictability strike again?
Closing Thoughts
After a Group Stage defined by chaos, upsets, and the heartbreak of three-time hopefuls, The International 2025 now heads into its most anticipated phase: the arena Playoffs beginning September 11th. With Xtreme Gaming and Team Falcons carrying fresh momentum, and dark horses like Heroic lurking in the shadows, fans are recalibrating their predictions and fantasy lineups in anticipation.
Whatever happens next, one thing is certain: almost nobody foresaw the tournament unfolding this way. Will 33 finally secure his elusive third TI title? Will China bring the Aegis back after years of waiting? Or will an unexpected underdog write a new chapter in TI history?
The answers are coming soon. For now, stay tuned, and don’t forget to keep up with every update in the news section of the Strafe website!
