Riot has introduced a new gamemode to their tactical FPS title, Valorant, entitled Swiftplay. It is a game mode meant to emulate the core fundamentals of what makes Valorant fun to play while packaging it in a quicker more digestible bite.

Valorant is an addictive game there is no doubt on that. Win or lose, the unique blend of user friendly, cool gameplay and competitive nature (regardless of game mode) is a fixation for a large majority of the game’s players. That said, sometimes we do not have the time to commit to a full game. We want to play but maybe we don’t have a full hour for it. Unrated was the obvious pick, but should you dodge, you get a warning. One would have to initiate an early surrender and hope it goes through.

With this new gamemode, that may be a thing of the past. Swiftplay, introduced in this 2022 year-end update, implements a beta for this quick fix. It has all the fun of an unrated, in the form of a Spike Rush or Replication.

What are the rules of Swiftplay?

First to five round, with a four-round half. Unlike Spike Rush, there will only be one spike carrier. Set credit amounts ensure each round starts everyone off on equal footing once more (600 credits extra for winning pistol is the only concession). Unlike Replication, weapons and credit balances carry over into the following rounds until half-time. Every agent starts each half with 2 ult charges to begin. There is no Overtime, rather like Unrated, sudden death will activate at 4-4. Riot has stated the expected game time to be approx. 15 mins.

Give it a Swift whirl

Most Valorant players spout practice and more gametime as the key to improving. However, for some, unrated and competitive can sometimes be an unpleasant, extensive experience. Training should not always be a rough experience for those players, and moreover, for others looking for quick bite-sized games, Swiftplay offers itself as the solution for both quandaries.

The implementation of Replication economy mechanics means that new players to the game can try out gameplay without having to worry about learning the intricacies of economy management when starting out. Aside from the additional cash from winning pistol, the gamemode does an excellent job introducing the basics of pistol round, bonus/eco round, and at least 2 buy rounds.

For fans of Replication and Spike Rush, this new gamemode potentially offers a new, more appealing option for them. Especially for players looking to relax with their friends, this gamemode will likely suit them.
